Hi list, I purchased a pair of fan thermostats for my 77b cause the old one
stopped working. The new ones lasted a week each and now kick it way to
high on the temp range. I got these form VickiBrit. Is there a particular brand you
can recommend I buy so I don't get screwed.
Thanks, ENrique

You can pick up one at an auto parts store for a few bucks. Mine is adjustable - you can change the temp it comes on.
Richard, sound fantastic, where did you get it and what brand is it?
Thanks, Rique
Advance auto. Can't remember the brand. Its a little box, with a small knob on the top and an a temp probe that you put on the radiator. It comes with wires and instructions. I think it was about $14. But I don't remember. But its very easy to use.
I checked on their web page but on luck. Quite expensive standard switch
50U$! Hope you recall the brand.

Make sure you do not have an 'air bubble' in the top of the radiator. Air will not heat to the required temp as quick as water and so the switch gets tripped late. Take off the top hose and fill from there. Then give it another go. Happened to me in my '78 after replacing the switch :)
Thanks, John
Enrique - Check this out: It's a Hayden, $27.99 from Amazon.com:
http://www.amazon.com/Econo-Adjustable-Electric-Radiator-Thermostat/dp/B000ANXQ58/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1207187860&sr=8-1
I purchased one like Rick linked at Advance Auto Parts last Novenber.
"Fan Control Adjustable 6016901, Item 226203 $17.77."
It is a Hayden Automotive item P 12623 IS. They should also be available at AutoZone stores.

I tried one of those once as it came with the Electric fan I had installed. It works, but it is also a potential leak maker. In the end I ended up having my local radiator shop solder in a threaded bung on the backside of my top tank for a Wells TU-68 temp switch when I had my radiator cleaned out. I have never regretted it and it provided a cleaner installation than the unit above. FWIW
I couldn't find the thermostat on the website - just go into the store. They have them on the shelf.
This one doesn't puncture the rad, you just strap the sensor on to the side of the radiator - it is totally non-invasive - you can remove it if you want to.
Bob, what did you use for temperature setting (controller)? I am looking into doing exactly what you did as my radiator is in the shop as I type.
195F, Andrew. If you get the Well's unit I mention above, you will also need the bung and you will be in business.
