Hi All
I will shortly be installing my Advance Autowire Loom to the 1970 B.
Would it be easier to install a dash loom (with the dash out at present) and then hook it up?
I am hesitant to start as I know it is a PITA of a job and will take me forever!
I am still trying to work out how to get the AA panel under the dash.
We will be painting the interior of the car, fitting the loom then doing the external panels and finishing off.
Thanks for your help...

I reused my dashboard wiring harness when I installed my Advance Wiring harness. I carefully removed the multi pin connector from the old wiring harness that was in the car. After carefully studying the dash harness I connected the correct pin or sockets as the case may be to the new wires and inserted them into the old multi pin connector. The correct pins and sockets are avaliable at British Wiring.
I cannot remember whether you will be using pins or sockets on the new wires for the dash harness. The pins and sockets must be carefully extracted from the multi pin connector using a small pick to push back the small barbs that hold it in place, I as well stripped the insulation off a bullet connector and used the springy metal tube inside to slide over the pin/socket pushing in the pins and enable me to pull the connector out. I also had the use of an open barrel crimping tool to install new pins or sockets onto the wires. A little pricey but worth it.
My car is a 1977, I also did this to connect to my ignition switch, wiper and turn signal switches which remain plug in and stock.

But to answer your question, is it easier, I'm not sure. It was a lot of fidgeting around but at the end of the job I got the results I wanted.

Good Luck

A separate dash harness is much easier than not having one. On the '69 GT I built a while back, I installed a new harness (not Advance Autowire) and it didn't have the separate harness. It's certainly doable, but more time consuming. Anytime you can make something "plug-and-play", you'll be further ahead.

Here's some photos of the installation.

#2 with the dash installed.

#3, back of the dash. All one can attach at this point is the gauge light harness. The gauge wiring itself is still on the car.
