I hate to ask something that has been gone over many times before but here it goes...I have searched the archives and the library but I still cant find out just how to get my light switch out of my dash. I tried everything except brut force since I do not want to damage my dash, not that it's perfect but hey, I just want to remove the whole assembly and replace with a new one trim & all that I ordered. Whats the secret?
BTW while I was playing with the new switch it shits the bed on me so I'll have to rebuild or order another one AUGH!

The best way to explain it is to refer you to John Twists video on YouTube where you can actually watch him do it.
The switch is held in place by a plastic, rectangular clip located on the back of the dash. Hopefully, someone has a photo as it's hard to describe in text.
I might have one at home.
John I don't know how the guys above are answering as I can't see which B you have - perhaps you could add the details to your title block - in the meantime my switch comes out by depressing a small plunger in the knob which allows me to pull it off and then undo the chrome retaining ring; the switch then pops out the back of the dash.

I referred him to John's videos because it shows both types of retainers as I remember.
I answered based on the GT shown in the avatar. Looks like an early 70's so that's the switch I described.
thanks guys..its not on my GT shown but it is the same on my roadster...it has the retaining clip around ii, it just seems to be a real PITA to get it to pop out...I'll hit the twist video....
John, I just recently replaced the heater switch on my '72B. I can tell you that with the metal clip attachment you must use a needle nose pliers and pull the wire out from under the dash. You will destroy the switch. Do not try to remove the switch from the front. My old switch came out in pieces.
The late great Dave Mack ran an MG shop, and had a dash sitting there, a lot becomes obvious if you can see the back of one sitting in a shop, lots of stuff seems to be held by other components as well.
The clips on my light switch are not very good, so the switch just slides out with a push from the back, and that's OK with me.
Regards, John
