My daughter called with her first B problem, and she has had the car just over a month! she says she did not lock the trunk, but she now cannot get it opened. She says the button will push all the way in, but even so, she cannot pull it open. I am a little proud of her though, I had told her to check the oil weekly, and she has(or says she has). I left two quarts in the trunk and she needed to add some, so she says she won't drive it until she gets in the trunk or goes and buys a quart. I never locked the trunk, although the lock worked, but to close it I would lower the boot lid and push the button to close it completely.
anyone with any ideas? or anyone in College Station, TX?

Sometimes a little downward pressure on the lid will help.
I'm 3-4 hours away or I would help. My '72 has the same problem, I have to pull up and down on the trunk a few times before it will open. I think it's just a bent latch........
A knee pushing in on the license plate while pulling up sometimes works.

Sounds like the latch nut has come loose? John twist has a video on you tube about this....plus if you have speakers cut into the boot space you might be able to gain access to get to the latch?
I had the same problem while trying to adjust the latch to be a little tighter. I tried lots of different things but the one that worked was pushing with a knee to the area under the latch while pulling up on the boot lid. Provided just enough clearance to open. Latch adjustment will probably be needed to keep it from happening again
Mine sticks a bit (GT) - try locking & unlocking with the key...does the trick every time.

This is it right here. Push on the plate with your knee while working the latch.
thanks to all, I'll have her put her knee into it, or more likely she will have her boyfriend put his knee into it.

If you take a step back, this is a comical read! The things we put up with and consider 'normal'! (:D
Hmmm. The button going all the way in suggests that it's locked.
Had this happen to me recently. It was not locked. My catch was bent. I looked the other way and my FIL had it open in jif by pressing on it and lifting. At the moment I'm riding with the trunk just closed under it's own weight. Need to order some parts soon.
Twist has a video on it.
That has happened on both my 71 and on the 77 that I had. Careful when pushing, my friend pushed really hard on my trunk and you can still see the dent in it in.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that.

I had told my daughter that stuff like that will always happen, it's normal for a British car. Her response? " Oh, OK" I guess she has been around me too long.
