A set of .010" MGB rod bearings (Vandervell) just sold on eBay for over $215!!! A set of .010" main bearings went to the same person for over $200. I sell the .010 rod bearings for much less. I sell all other sizes of main bearings for way less (the .010" are scarce so I charge a stupid price if someone really wants them) If you want them, it seems like the demand is getting a bit scary. Sometime common sense departs when "bidders go wild" on e-bay.

Yeah Basil and Rick, it's just like the BL am/fm radios. One week they're selling for over $300 and the next week they're lucky to fetch $50 for the very same style/type/condition radio. I can't explain it! :D

Ignorant bidders...

So what's a set of std. worth?

Clay, I'd accept that explanation but the folks who buy these radios are a very select group. They have the MGB or Triumph that uses this type radio and there can't be too many of them out there. It's almost like one week the high bidders are paying attention and the next week they're not! I got mine last year (excellent condition) for a cool $100 USD but I've seen the same radio go for much more than that in recent auctions. Right now they don't seem to be bidding too much for them (around $50 USD at last check). It's a very fickle market from what I can see. :D

Yes, I know what you mean. I have couple of nice Bomar am/fm radios ready to fit up. One I had to bid something over $100 for. The next I got for the opening $50 bid. Not a big deal, but... huh?

Never underestimate stupidity.

Reminds me of that grille badge I bought off eBay a few years back. ;)

You paid more for that badge than I paid for my whole car.

Yes, I wanted to have it for sure, as it's probably the only one in the world. I DIDN'T however think it would go that high. I placed a very high reserve price and walked away from it knowing I'd be out of town and had no way to check the auction. Well, Murphy's Law, it DID go way up.

Oh well, it is a nice piece that only goes on for shows, and the wife and I still get a laugh about the whole thing. ;) Well, she laughs now. ;)

Auctions, what can you say. Wierd things happen at live ones so why would an internet one be any different? If you are buying, the over payers are idiots. If you're selling, they are good customers. :)
