Distributor wire order

I am quite embarrased to ask this seemingly easy question! What is the order the distributor wires go back on to the plugs starting at the front of the engine and the order in the distributor cap?

I had the stored "B" outside for the winter, covered in lint sheets in an attempt to keep mice away, I must have missed the distributor wires and they have eaten every little bit of the wires. Not just a little bit but every thing! I had the wires marked but that is all gone now. I have been working on a XKE and forgotten everything about the "B" and can not find this basic info in the workshop manual. I got new wires and am using the original caps.

Starting at 2 o' clock on the distributor the order of the plugs is 1 3 4 2 going anti-clockwise on the distributor cap (1 is the cylinder closest to the radiator)

Many thanks, I got three great replies, one was wrong, which of course was the one I tried to start with and then I tried the other two including yours and it started first time.

Now I have to figure out what it is running rough.....I will go through the list of usual trouble spots to start.........
