I'm thinking of welding mine shut - the little lever under the dash.
I'd still have heat and defrost, but no fresh air in the cockpit.
Given that A) it's a british car, B) I have two windows and a quarter window I
can open, I don't think I need the fresh air vent.
Any opinions?
Does anyone use their fresh air vents?

I use mine all the time save for winter.
Why weld it? Why not just keep it closed and forget about it?
I use mine all the time in the summer, gets kind of warm on the shoes down there. You could always get a cover for the air vent on the hood.
I leave mine open year round. In the cold of winter, with the magnetic cover on the cowl air vent, the heater works better.
If you do the mice won't be able to get from the cowl into the cockpit.
Jack
So that's how they get in there!!
I use mine all the time too
The effect of the vent is really noticeable when you have the hood up, and you are driving. It's like having a fan blowing on you!
peace, Kyle
Mine's always open unless the temp goes below about 50F.
That vent is one big advantage the MGB has over the Miata. It really makes a difference in keeping the footwells cooler. With the Miata, I have to turn the AC on and direct the cold air to the floor. Of course, the Miata HAS AC!! :D
I had mine open today on a trip. Kept the footwells a little cooler on a warm day.
I use it all the time also, as well as the face vents ( '73 B ). Turns out I need to: My wife was complaining just tonight that the heater makes the car too hot. Of course, she's just turning 50.... :eyeroll:
R.
Hood = top
Bonnet = hood
boot = trunk
windscreen = windshield
footwell = furnace
Right. Point, I'll probably want it on my second attempt to drive cross country, after
I'm done the project.
I was just looking at a friends mga today thinking "why does the mgb have all this extra crap?"
We too open and close the vent depending on the temp..... it times I wish I could pull in more fresh air, especially on the feet. I wondered if anyone makes a scoop that can mount magnetically on the vent to do so. Or, is the anyway to lower the heat transfer from the engine to the footwells?
I would like to connect my AC to the dash vents in center. How do you get it out?
The dash vents on mid-70s B's are next to pathetic. They don't do much and nothing at all at low speeds. As for the footwell vent, it's a nice idea but I find it doesn't bring in a whole lot of air even at speed. Of course, I might have a dead critter wedged up in there for all I know.
Big Moneymaking Idea: Why doesn't someone come up with a nice little chrome or plexiglass "hood scoop" for mounting on top of the chrome vent below the windshield? Nothing too tall, pf course, but enough to capture some air and ventilate the car while driving. Or is that just a terrible idea?

Zackley!..................
They DO have the magnetic vent "blocker" but not a scoop..... I was thinking about sticking one of those magnetic, plastic (expandable) air register deflectors that they make for HVAC vent in your house just to see if it improved air flow. I only wonder if the magnets would hold it on at highway speed. If it worked maybe one of the window vent shades that people mount over their truck windows (King cab etc) would fit nicely? I wonder if you can buy them seperatly of if they only sell them in a set that contains the visors for the front windows too?
