Watched a 'Sunday Morning' episode recently highlighting Rock and Roll and Doo Wop music. Didn't know that 'Doo Wop' was coined 10 years after 'Rock and Roll'. How many of you on the twilight side of the hill were around on the morning side of the mountain? Rock and roll, doo wop or R and B still light up your life?

I wasn't born until the early 60's, but I've always loved early doo-wop - probably because my dad was a jazz musician and couldn't stand it (rock n roll put him out of a job).
Earth Angel (the Penguins version) is "our song" for me and DW.
Bought my first 45 in '57. Still have most of them in a box.
I ain't on the "twilight side of the hill" but the hubby and I sure love the old Rock and Roll, Doo Wop and R & B . PBS has some great reunions of the old groups :)
Early rock 'n roll, rock a billy not bad, doo wop, uh OK.
Blue grass waaaaay better, even here in Minnesota..........
Love the old stuff..Wish I had xm in the B..Friend of mine gave me 10 cd's of the oldies I play..Problem is, I remember most of them..:)
GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Doowop Rules!!!!!!!!!! i have almost 1400 doowop songs on my zune. a small portion of the est. 35000 produced. i spend at least 2 hrs/day listening... right now it's Here Am I by The Four Js.
lotsa good doowop sites with streaming music on the web. try Rock-it-Radio for some of the best.
,.,. Art laboe,. he produced all those oldie but goodie albums,.
in the early 70`s,. he had a nightclub in Hollywood,.
and I went as much as often as I could,.
the penquins , platters, rosie and the orginals,. many more, played there,.
one night,. in the audience next table from mine,. was " big mama thornton"
she composed and recored the original " hound dog"
she went up on stage, wearing farmer john coveralls,. and did that song,.
then , " big Joe turner" got up and did " shake rattle and roll"
another night,. Mary Wells, was there and jumped and did a few of her songs,.then./,.
Dick Clark had this rock n roll revival, 1971?
at the forum,. I drove my red 1958 chevy,.
the highlight was a reunion of the 5 satins,. doing " in the still of the night"
I first saw chuck berry , 1968 ,. then many many times after, a great show, always back then,. and Bo Diddly was almost always on the same event,.
music was changing very quickly,. at that time,. soon , it was jimi hendrix at the hollywood bowl,.the doors at the kaliedascope,.
but,. early rock n roll was always what I remember best,. like dion and the belmonts,
I had a girlfriend in junior hi,. she played this 45 rpm record over and over, it was by the " cascades" guess what it was????

...every bit of it.....all the old stuff and frank, tony and les paul and country and..........it's is a haven that I went back to from talk radio about 6/7 years ago.
I always wanted to be the Bassman. The 50's channel on Sirius/xm is a Sunday morning staple here. There's also a great DooWop show from NPR that plays around midnght on Saturdays on WFUV-FM in NYC that we enjoy whenever we're coming home from a night out.

Earworm? You must have some German in your lineage. I get those all the time - drives my wife nuts because I don't even realize I'm singing or humming the same two lines from the same song over and over and over...
gonna see Johnny Mistro and the Brookyln Bridge and Bobbie Rydell this sat night, full report to follow. Its my valentine present to the bride, should keep me in good graces till at least monday
Aw, man, I loved it. My brother & I used to sneak the radio in bed and listen to the "Top 40" station when we were supposed to be going to sleep. Loved the early rock and do-wop stuff! I was about 10 when Elvis hit the airwaves.

Yeah me too. I was allowed to listen to the radio for 1/2 hour after I went to bed. One night after the 1/2 hour was up I snuck the radio under the covers so I could keep listening and I fell asleep. My dad heard it anyway and came in to to shut it off. When he found it under the covers it was so hot (tube radio) he could barely touch it. I got in BIG trouble for that one! Could have burned the house down.
