Probably a dumb question from a novice. This fell out of my the door handle of my 1969 Mk II roadster door handle. I can't figure out how it is supposed to be attached to the door handle - do I need to buy a new door handle to fix this?
Many thanks
PS - just noticed that for whatever reason the picture I tried to attach did not work - basically the push button has fallen outn

just get a replacement, take off the inner panel and pull the old one off.
Carl, your question is a little confusing, but if you are referring to just the button itself, on the '68-'80, the button itself is just held in by a #10x1" fine thread machine screw with a flat head that makes contact with the door latch, if nothing else is broken. If that's the case, then Jerry's advice is best.
The '65-'67 requires two screws but I think one is shorter than the other.
I probably didn't explain that real well, and as they say a picture is worth a 1000 words so here it is.
The spring slides over the post on the button and down through the tube attched on the handle. The machine screw then threads into the bottom of the post of the button. It's really very simple. Pull your door panel off and have at it!!!
Thankyou for your reply - sorry I should have been more explicit.
I was trying to ascertain whether or not I change out the whole door handle. If it is just the screw that holds this in I presume I just need to get a new one to fix this up
Now even clearer with your picture - thankyou very much - it looks the screw has simply come out that holds the push button on the door handle - so all I need to do is take the inner door cover off and screw it back in - thankyou! You saved me buying a door handle I did not need!
No problem, no need to buy new parts if you don't need them.
Take Care.
the missing screw/washer is in the bottom of the door, fish it out with a magnet, re install
I got it (the screw and washer) at the bottom of the door. I took the door interior trim off to reattach but unless I am missing a trick it seems to be one heck of a tricky job to do it up again as access is very tight to do the screw up!
Hey, thanks to all on this post... I had the same problem with the button on my handle. What an easy fix.... I was able to adjust the screw to pull the button back into alignment and was able to tighten the mounting nuts on the handle itself because it wobbled a bit. All is well now.....
Again, Thanks so much to all the people who use this site as it's a big help when addressing issues on these cars. It really makes owning a MG a real satisfying experience.
A drop locktite on the screw threads before screwing it in will prevent this from happening again.
Cheers,
