I am looking for an inexpensive car cover to keep the water out of a couple leaky spots on my MG and just to keep the dust, bird crap, rain, etc off the car. It will be removed almost every day, so I am not too worried about it trapping moisture under the car. I found this car cover: http://www.amazon.com/100%25-Waterproof-Car-Cover-Fits/dp/B0011Z7PXS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1206453754&sr=8-3
and was wondering if any of you all might have experience with Empire covers or maybe this cover specifically. No where locally carries size 1 in stock. Also, does anyone know about the budge lite car cover? Would that be a good cover to keep water out?

Hurst, I saw all those covers on Ebay as well but the $15-$20 S&H didnt seem right. I found the same style budget cover at my local Advance Auto. The small fits reasonably snug on my RB and it had a four year warranty, not that that means anything. It does and good enough job for under $25.
I have a bargain basement cover (small size) from Wallyworld. Now mind you, I have a garage so I couldn't tell you about being totally water tight, but couldn't beat the price....
Is there really a cover that is "Waterproof". I was looking for one just for the rain. Not worried about moisture being trapped. I don't think there are waterproof covers out there that you can pour a class of water into that does not leak threw.
I don't know, I was hoping someone might have one. I would spend the extra little bit if it was water proof. I am in the same boat as you, I just want something on it for when it rains because I have a couple seeps and drips.

I ordered from Advance Auto's website the smallest car cover they've got (size #1) and had them ship it to a local store. Cost me maybe $40 and it's very good.
Not sure about completely waterproof. For that, I expect you'd need to get a high-end Technalon (or whatever) cover that fits really snug and costs about $200. Well worth it, unless it gets stolen, of course like one of my nicer covers did.
I let you know what I find out. So far they all say there covers are waterproof and we both know that is not the case.
Dan, are you getting one of the empire water proof ones? I am thinking about getting one of those too as it seems the best deal. I just need something really to break the rain so it can't find its way into the little nooks and crannies and leak in. I just hate spending more than what is required to get the job done. Is the shipping to store free? If so, I may do that.
Hurst
Has anyone tried the walmart classic accessories cover? That one is 30 and can be shipped to store for free.
Hurst
"Shipped me a rowboat cover instead of the car cover I ordered, took over a week to get a return tag to me, didn;t log in the return until I contacted them, and NOW say it will take up to 20 days for my account to be credited. Total of 49 days from incorrect shipment to credit. I'll nuy from anyone other than Empire."

I'll think I'll wait till you get yours and see how you like it.
If you're just using it to keep water from leaking into the cockpit overnight, why not just get a truly waterproof tarp from Home Depot or Wally World. A small one could be tossed over the passenger compartment and bungee corded to the wheel wells. Probably be quicker on and off than a full cover...
Would a tarp mess up the paint? I wouldn't mind going with the idea, but I don't want to mess up the paint. I know that wouldn't be covering but a little of the paint, but most tarps have metal rings where you hook bungees/ropes.
Hurst
I thought of that but i did not want to add to the "curb appeal" of my home.
Paint damage would be a problem, but you could probably find a way around it. It could be a problem with a regular cover too...
Dan...that's why I like my house - driveway is off a service road in the rear! :D
I think if I just get a cheapie it will keep the water away from the leaks. All the leaks are just little places where the water seeps in and I may be able to stop them just by adjusting the vent window and reinstalling one of the convertable top hook things on the rear with a little silicone around the screw holes.
Hurst
I got a heavy duty piece of landscaping black plastic mounted some snap on grommets and bungy cords with plastic hooks to hold it down. It's like a traveling car cover Moss sells. It works great, easy to put on and folds up nicely.
Paul, do you have any problems with the plastic rubbing the paint? I am thinking about getting the plastic, but was worried about the paint.
Hurst
Hurst;
I am using Walmart's Budge Barrier top-of-line car cover ($70) to keep the
dust off the car. It works okay.
I seriously doubt it would keep water off the car.
