Canadian Tire is going to discontinue it's printed catalog.

Just to put this in perspective, this is like ending the Sears catalog and banning baseball and apple pie in the US all at the same time.

I had better get down to my local CT and get a few pristine catalogs. Put them in one of those big Ziploc bags and repackage in a double paper bag. One day they will be worth cash to my grandchildren.

Now I know what "CT" means :)

Yes, some joke that it stands for Crappy Tire, but it's been an integral part of Canadian life for 80 years. Every Canadian male has part of his retirement fund in Canadian Tire money.

You had me scared, for a second there I thought you were going to say "discontinued Canadian Tire Money". Can't say I've ever seen the catalogue? They sure have a knack for not having whatever you're looking for.

Skye, when i first heard this on the radio, i thought the same thing. Their headline was" an end of an era at Canadian Tire. Here is a link to story CBC's Marketplace did on CT money. It is rather amusing how some people hate CT money

For a second there, after reading the Header....

I thought the Leafs had missed the playoffs. :)

There is a special place in my home, for the Canadian Tire catalogue. Right above my Princess Auto, and Home Hardware books... in the reading room.
You can only read so many MG books.

You've never seen the catalogue? You're obviously a recently arrived immigrant from outer Mongolia.

If CT money was being done away with, I would have titled this thread "Canadian Economy Collapses!"

Gee, that catalogue was drooled over before every Christmas when I was a kid.

Even back then (a long time ago), CTC carried hockey gloves, skates, bicycles, etc., everything a young lad could wish for at Christmas. The old trick was to leave the catalogue open at the right page where Mum and Dad were sure to see what you wanted, plus of course, some gentle verbal hints/requests.

These days it's like shopping in a Walmart, but I still go in there out of nostalgia.

Unlike the Sears catalogue with their disgusting undergarment pages, (usually around 23)

I have quite a roll of CTC money. It started as a small roll when my Dad was alive, and I've been adding to it ever since.

Just can't bring myself to spend it, as I think of him each time I slip another bill into the roll.

Funny how you miss your parents, no matter how long it's been since they left. And funny the things you keep around to remind you of them.

FLASH...I just want you guys to know...CT....CTC...stands for something equally..if not of more importance than some old tire store....CT early TR4 comm# prefix....CTC TR4A independant rear susp. IRS comm# prefix....

Sorry to be more than a little obtuse here...CT money?

Is this like the black market or monopoly paper?

Never heard of this so I am guessing it is a purely Canadian custom if that is the right word.

Some more explanation for the non maple leafers on the board please.

Cheers , Pete.

Sorry. Every home in Canada seems to have a drawer full of CT money.

Canadian Tire Money is what you get paid for putting up with poor customer service.

Used to be that people would work at CTC, and make a career of it. They would be paid enough to support a family.

Now, they use part-time help, who don't know a ratchet from rat poison, and couldn't tell you where to find either.

There are some good CTC employees still, and once you find one, you tend to go back to that branch store.

Besides, why would CTC sell rat poison? It used to be an automotive supply store, with a few household and sporting goods.
