I am relatively very new to this site. What motor oil are you 1500 MGA owners running through your engines. Are you adding STP or other additives for missing zinc in the newer motor oils? Please be specific if you run Castrol 20W/50 or Mobil Synthetics or something else. Where do you find and purchase your oil filter interiors elements? Are you adding gasoline additives as well each tank fill up?
I am sure this exists at this site, I just haven't found it.

I run Castrol 20/50, and I put a ZDDP additive in my oil at each change.
I add a little MMO as well - but that may just be superstition on my part....and I like the smell.

Upon recommendation of my mechanic I've been using Valvoline VR1 Racing Oil.
It has ZDDP already added.

First, as a new owner, familiarize yourself with Barney Gaylords website (MGAGuru.com). I know he has an article on engine oil - and I think his conclusion is that it doesn't make much difference what you use.
I only put on about 500 miles per year. I mostly use 30 weight oil for engine and transmission. I'll use the VR1 Racing Oil when I can get it, but I also use Quaker brand motor oil when I can't.
I've been thinking of getting a case of the Joe Gibbs "Hot Rod" motor oil for the ZDDP and the rust inhibitors.
I use Sta-Bil in the fuel, especially over the winter.
i use 20w50 valovine racing oil, it's already got the good stuff added. also, any brand name diesel oil has what you need already included.
