I should have pulled the engine out but it sure felt good to give it a couple of coats after all of the time I have spent grinding and sanding.

You're doing a really nice job. Looks great. Yeah, a little harder with the engine in place but yours will look as if the engine had been removed for the job. Not a fun job either way.

very nice indeed, this gives me inspiration to do mine over the winter when the car will not be used as much!

what type of paint did you use?

Thanks

I used Omni AU MTK81827 code BLVC 15 Bronze Yellow. Used a touch up sprayer with the a 4 once bottle on top 8 onces so far 4 more will finish it today.

The best part was the colour actually matches the rest of the car.

Only bad thing is that the Engine bay looks nicer than the engine now.

Yeah, but that's easy to fix! Although I painted my engine first then wrapped it up to paint the bodywork, there's no reason it can't be done the other way around. Just drape everything but the engine with plastic and spray away...

Looks really nice. I pulled the engine (rebuild) when I did mine. I think the yellow makes it really pop.

Paul, That looks great! I'm very jealous since I didnt have time to keep mine apart and paint the bay as well. Now I wish I had done it.

Paul be carefull when sprying after the paint has dried on the plastic covers. If too much air hits the plastic, the dried paint will blow off into your fresh paint.

Yo...Nice. I'm doing mine this winter - and have juggled back and forth whether to paint the bay with the engine in or out? I initially was going to paint the bay with the engine in...then I decided to take out the engine...now you've swayed me to keep the engine in. I have heard guys say using aluminum foil to wrap items in the engine bay works quite well. I don't plan to remove all the stuff you did - but believe if I'm patient enough - and don't rush it - I can accomplish the same results.

I believe I can replace the tappet cover gaskets, if I remove the carbs, intake, exhaust manifold, correct? My engine bay's getting cleaner, been cleaning it - and I have another couple cleanings to go, before I paint...thanks for the inspiration. Dan

Dan...remove everything you can. Since you're removing the carbs and intake anyway, that'll pretty much take care of the left side. It only takes a few minutes to remove the distributor & wires, coil, oil filter, alternator, etc. When I did mine, I also removed the radiator & all hoses, the fuse box - and I had the brake master off as well, since it needed replacing.

The biggest problem spraying with the engine in place is being able to get the angle you want with either a spray can or a touch up gun. The more stuff you can get out of the way, the easier it is to get where you need to be.

Joe...

I completely agree with you. I will slowly - with pictures and written diagrams, remove everything that I can. I do in fact - plan on removing the radiator, the easiest thing for me to do...it'll be a bit more daunting to remove the exhaust manifold, since I've never done it. Fortunately though - my exhaust system is new - so the nuts aren't ceased onto the connection points. I have acquainted myself with distributor side of the engine - and feel most confident now - about moving, removing things around. I haven't tackled the thought of removing the Master brake cylinder though - yikes! The alternator, distributor, fuse box, coil and such, all are going to be easy though. Yes, I agree - the angles will be tough - though I'm going to look into finding a smaller more versatile sprayer nozzle with hose. Thanks for the input. Dan
