Using my new HF hoist today I got the lump out for a rebuild. I did have to put the front wheels on 2x4's so it would fit under the A-arms.Worked out fine after that. I used the tilt they sold and the trick I discovered was to make the chains as short as possible so the boom is almost all the way down. That left enough room to tilt it out of there with the boom set at 500lbs. No problems at all..
Not sure if you seen my post a few weeks back about a broken exhaust valve on # 1 but the piston took a beating. I'm posting the broken valve and the the piston, now that it's out.. It's pretty ugly..
I'm getting my head back from Sean(flowspeed) next week so I'm getting my list together for the bottom end this weekend.

Ouch!!
I actually looked at that hoist today. For $99 it's hard to pass up. Did it have enough reach w/o hitting the bumper?
I noticed Hap has put together a kit of quality engine parts. When I'm ready to do a rebuild, I'm definitely going to give him a call.

Paul, once I put the front wheels up on 2x4's and jacked up the back it still was little of a stretch. I had the chains on the tilt hoist fuly extended, but once I shorted them up and lowered the boom(LOL) it worked ok. I wound up moving the chains twice to get it to reach and so I felt comfortable.
If anyone hasn't noticed, if you disconnect the hood stay rod you can tie a rope to the hood plunger and run it back over the top to tie it off at the rear bumper. That gets the hood vertical and out of the way without unbolting it and then having to go through the BS of realignment when it put back on.
Jack
that's what i did jack.
that list from hap is going to be invaluable for a lot of people around here.
