Does the gasket between the rear plate and the engine seal any fluids? I want to know if I can paint that big heavy plate before I assemble the engine. its a 1965 MGB engine. what do you guys do?

I paint after it is assembled to the block. Yes, the plate blocks fluids, hence the rear plate gasket.
