Why is it,that people will go WAY out of there way to visit Napa,CA,
but will completely bypass Eureka?
We have HUGE Redwood trees here,+ some Great driving roads.
I've had many people complement our area, but NEVER take the time to contact
us here in the "Redwood Curtain".
Why is that?

I would be very envious of you...If you have a beautiful place, keep it to yourself. I wouldn't want to encourage the riff raff to come and spoil it.

Wine. Close proximity to SF.

I prefer the Eureka area for the reasons you have stated.
I bet most people who have stood at the lighthouse and looked out over Trinidad bay would agree.
Or spent a day in Ferndale.
And Fern Canyon.
I could go on and on.

Doug,

I live 30 miles from the Napa Valley and I worked there for 9 years. It's a beautiful area, don't get me wrong! But nothing against the valley or the people that live there, it just doesn't hold the same beauty as the north coast does!
Hands down, Eureka so much more going for it in my opinon. It also has something that the Napa Valley doesn't have and that's the "Samoa Cookhouse". If one visits the Eureka area, you gotta take in a meal at the cookhouse. You won't leave hungry and if you do it's your own damn fault! Two thumbs up there buddy!

I've been in the Eureka/Ferndale area several times, but I don't think I've ever actually been in Napa.

We're bringing a group of cars down the coast through the redwoods ending in Corvalis for the get together.

Napa has overtones of Italy, whereas Eureka has a definite hint of Greek. Now I ask you, where do more tourists like to travel - Italy or Greece?

Funny you should mention this, as it was just last week that I heard the story about Archimedes and the Greek origin of the word "eureka" for the very first time.

Well, Doug, Napa is only minutes from a major East-West corridor and a few minutes more from a major North-South corridor. Yes Eurekas scenery is second to none, but can't agree with your notion folks will go WAY out of their to visit Napa Valley and bypass your area. I think it is FAR easier for most of the country to visit Napa and surrounds. Just cause some folks choose to take a different route should in no way make you feel as though you have been snubbed! Heck, old bud, I will even make another trip your way soon and let ya know I'm passin' thru!

Sorry,I was thinking aloud - again.
It just seems that no one let's us know here that they'll
be in our area.I've missed Umpteen people that were passing
through here, but don't notify us until it's too late.

Lee,(& anyone else passing through),

Please let me (us)know that you are,& we'll show you
around the area.I need the British Car reenforcement every now-
& then!

Nope. Got a hint when someone in a film or TV show mentioned the Greek origins of the word, so I grabbed a dictionary, then googled it later.
