Hello,

My MGB and Jaguar XJ6 both have a front end clunk. When I have the wheel turned and I move forward, even accelerating just a little bit, there will sometimes be a "clunk" in the front end. It happens only when the wheel is turned and the car moves forward. I would appreciate any help!

as always thanks, Kyle

MGB ain't got no ball joints.

At least not suspension kind. it does have moog fittings on the steering arms.

the B also has a front end that needs rebuilding every couple decades or so.

can't speak to the XJ6. This 'un BL or Ford?

Hello,

Oh! I am sorry, I knew that! I think I am getting my cars mixed up! My Jaguar is the REAL Jaguar, it is an 86 series 3. Both of my cars track straight and brake straight. There is just that clunk. The Jaguars suspension is more complex, but I know all old cars will need bushings etc....

Thank you, Kyle

Anything loose in the front can do it. On MG, loose or worn shocks, loose kingpins, worn tie rod ends or inner tie rod joints, sloppy pads in the calipers. I am astounded and frightened by the number of times I hear about loose calipers or steering arms.

Same for Jag, but disintegrated rack mount bushings are the prime suspect - notorious for that.

Don't know about the Jag, but the problem on the MG could be caused by worn out or missing crossmember pads. If you jack up the front and try moving stuff around you'll probably figure out what's loose...

Hello,

Thanks for the advice! I guess I will wiggle everything around and see!

Thank you, Kyle

How's the fluid in your steering rack?
