I grounded the power lead that was attached to the sending unit to a good ground and the gauge went to full, okay. So all I need to do is make sure the tank is grounded and it should start working right? I also ordered a new SU fuel pump for my 77 MGB. Is there a rotation that the pump needs to be mounted like the pumps on the Midgets?

It should work IF the sending unit is good, the test you did only verified the gauge is working.

You have identified that the wiring to the tank is ok, but the sending unit could have failed, or in my case the plastic float had filled with gasoline and did not float

I will need to pull the sending unit out to see if it is good. Will I need to replace the rubber seal or will the old one be fine?

Dave - where did you purchase those braided hoses for your fuel pump? Or is that a custom installation (as the proximity of the copper tubing would suggest.) Thanks.
