I've seen a couple of these in pictures... It's a hard top that extends back over the trunk or most of it that makes the roadster look sort of like a GT when the hard top is on. I like the look of those better than the more typical roadster hard tops. Is anyone familiar with them? Like who made them, what they were called, & whether they're available anywhere?
Thanks,
Rob

I saw a one in a British junkyard the other day. It was in pretty poor shape. They are very rare, as I hardly ever see them.
The ones I've always seen pictures of are called made by "Ashley".
I thought those type of hardtops were made for Sprites and Midgets. Was one model made for Bs also?
Read about the Williams top here:-

I always thought they were just Spridget ones too, but Eric in Australia has posted pictures of one on a B, and I've seen one or two others too on the internet. There were also some others, such as one called a Heron. I've never been fortunate enough to see any of them in person though. Steve Simmons has a bunch of great hardtop pictures on his site, http://www.mgnuts.com.
That's kind of cool looking. Not sure it wouldn't look even better if it were higher (squarer) in the back like a BGT, though. Maybe Moss Motors should get a batch made up and see if they sell? The trunk hinges look like a weak spot -- and I imagine where it sits on top of the rear wings is a surefire leak area into the trunk (boot).
Neat idea. Wonder who made them and how much they sold for?
There may be more than one version, but I am familiar with the one made by "Ashley" - it was really a sort of reversible conversion - the car became an "Ashley GT"!
When I was shopping for my first MGB in England, I went to look at one and to be very honest - it was the ugliest thing I have ever seen on an MGB (well, apart from some of the pictures posted here from time-to-time). It was nowhere near as useful as a real GT, does not add any stiffness, makes the trunk all but useless, and looks kinda wierd! Ugh, nasty!
Of course, this is only my opinion!
