Not sure if this is OT but thought it might be of interest. We decided to replace our worn-out builder-grade (pine framing with masonite panels) garage doors with new insulated ones and take advantage of the 30% tax credit for home energy improvements - it includes garage doors if the garage is attached to the house.

Then the might-as-wells kicked in and I gave the place a much-needed several coats of paint and splurged on a Racedeck floor. The floor was quite easy to install and makes a huge improvement.

I'm too embarrassed to post any "before" photos but if you imagine a cross between a landfill and a coal mine you'll have a good general idea of what it looked like 2 weeks ago.

Man, you guys have got to stop showing these beautiful garages! Mine makes me want to wear a paper-bag mask when I go out there! :eyepop:

Thanks, Rick. I was there, believe me.

Also, where did you get that great avatar photo? My friends and family in northern PA would really get a kick out of that if you can point me to a larger size version.

Looks great! My favorite are the two B's inside the garage.

the cars are back inside for the first time in about 4 months. They both need a good detailing, out under car covers and tarps. Glad to get them back where they belong

I do like the racedeck.....

Oh the jealousy. If I painted/tiled my floors, they'd be ruined in a week from the welding and grinding. Nice work guys!

Great job! I've done a few of these in my time. As much work as they are, it's always very rewarding.

Jeff, the right type of coating can hold up very well to grinding and welding. And if it starts getting ugly, you just put a fresh top coat on. Paint is definitely not for every shop, nor are tiles of course. But you may be surprised how well it holds up. Some paint systems offer a bond to the concrete that is stronger than the concrete itself, which means the only way to "chip" the paint is to actually chip the concrete itself.

i think its an excuse, Jeff, but me too. there's too much heavy work in my garage to have such a pretty floor....looks really great though.

Wow. That garage looks amazing - as do both MGs, esp the GT!

Nice touch with the racedeck floor too. It looks great. I'll keep that idea in mind if I ever get a garage. Thanks for sharing

I can honestly say that that is the first Tiffany lamp I have ever seen in a garage! Looks great.

I used the Racedeck instead of paint because there was so much oil and other junk sunk into the concrete floor that I worried I'd never get paint to stick.

Very nice, we have been dreaming about working on ours but the cold weather isn't helping since there is no heat in there yet. If you get bored come on over for a visit :).

Beautiful Shop Jack, that would never be in the cards for me. But I gotta ask what and how exactly, is a racetrack floor. other than the obvious.

"Race Deck" http://www.racedeck.com/

Like paint and other coatings, it has its advantages and disadvantages.

I had epoxied my floors about 10-12 years ago and they held up pretty well during the restoration projects. I used the relatively cheap HD type. This time around it was 100% solids and should hold up even better. I don't see much restoration type work for me in the future.
