Hello. I researched in the forums and can't find the right answer. Maybe someone can help me out. I am not sure what kind of oil to use for the gear box. We are replacing the clutch and figured we will change the oil while we're at it. Help!!

It depends on what year your Midget is.

All prior to 1975 with the BMC transmission should use engine oil 20/50 is usually the choice.

1975 and newer using the 1500 Triumph engine and transmission use a Hypoy type 90 weight oil. 80/140 is also used.

Thanks for your help. It is a 1979 midget. Which of the two would you recommend?

Hypoy 80-90 GL4 is important, too. GL5 apparently eats bronze, like synchros and stuff. Or go with a synthetic like Redline MTL.

I was logging in to research this very subject. How much gear oil will the later models take and where is the oil refilled at?
