I know I should have stayed home today and processed T-shirt orders :D But the sun showed itself for the first time in awhile and I really wanted to put some miles on my rebuild! yay! So I took off for the Adirondacks, for awhile now I've been wanting to head up to Blue Mountain Lake which was the spot many wealthy "rusticators" in the early 1800's built their first "Camps" to escape the hot NYC summers. Unfortunately, I didn't make it that far, but I did get to North Creek, which back in the 1800's was the end of the rail line into the Adirondacks, from there the rusticators traveled by Stage Coach or boat to Blue Mountain Lake.

It was in the 50/60's and the sun was BRIGHT! Once I got in the park there was still a good bit of snow pack. My refreshed engine ran very strong, but I've noticed a rumble or mechanical sound at idle when I let off the clutch. I replaced the throwout bearing when I did the install and I'm wondering if something funny isn't going on with the clutch fork. Hmmmm. I still need to fix my front oil leaks, but for today, I just really enjoyed the drive! I put about 130 miles on it today.

PS - the river in the photos is the Hudson. Looks a bit different upstate! LOL!
PSS - Sometimes, it's nice to be unemployed! LOL! (don't tell my wife)

Something especially wonderful about a warm day with snow on the ground.

I managed 200 miles on a B last week and my does regular driving improve its, and mine, attitudue. I love the heater on full, top down, early more chill. About the same you get now in the heat of the day.

Using it as a commuter some (26 mile communte). And the 80s in the work parking lot today. I just might have to sneak out early today. My big deadline is Apr 28, and finished my commits for the quarter today (Feb, Mar, Apr in my world). I deserve a break.

I almost decided to unload my family Volvo and survive B only. If it just wasn't so dam hot in the summer.

John isn't the throwout bearing only engaged with the clutch in? Is there a pilot bearing when the clutch is out? It's been a long time since Ive done a clutch so I forget exactly how that works...I do remember having an issue sililar to that on an old GMC pickup way back when, just can't remember what it was.

Brian,

Yes, the throwout bearing is engaged with the clutch is in. The pilot bearing is in the center of the flywheel and takes the transmission shaft.

When I did my refresh, my clutch looked fine, but I did replace the carbon throw out bearing. The ears on the new bearing were a little snug (Bob Ford at Brit tek warned me about this) so I filed down the clutch fork a bit to make it work. Now I'm wondering if the clutch fork is vibrating or making the noise. I need to get under the car with a mechanic's stetoscope and find out where it's coming from.

Good on you John but I'd say you have big ones to go up there with a fresh engine.
When you're tired of looking at those orange tubes let me know. I'm in no hurry so whenever. Sure hope you don't have to use it again.
A new heating system for the house has stalled any B progress + need an MC for the Bugeye. Doubt if I'll make it to the celts fest. Let me know if you want a co-pilot for Britfest.

Will do Bill!

When I was up there and all of a sudden realized I didn't have cell phone service I did lose a bit of my bravado! LOL!

Looks like I might have to pull the engine again and replace the clutch. Dang! So I'll hold on to your hoist a bit longer if that's ok! Thanks man!
