I have put my rebuilt distributor on and static timed the engine. Installed the new Weber carb and manifold. Squirt in some starter fluid and it starts and runs for a few seconds, revs high and dies. Any suggestions? New fuel pump and I am getting gas at the carb.

Thanks for the help.

open up the idle mixture, sometimes if the carb is new they will be screwed all the way in, look for vacuum leaks missing fittings , ect

Advance the timing from what the factory recommended for static. Try 10-12 degrees rather than 6. If that doesn't work, take apart the new carb and check the float settings. Many times they are WAY off from the factory. That would explain your problem!

Thanks Jeff, the rebuilt distributor appears to be working well. I set the static time to 15 degrees and adjusted the carb and we got it started.....more or less. It is now pumping oil out the exhust, alot of oil. There are no bugs within 6 blocks. It has never done this before. Where could the oil be coming from, its burning it and its running out under the car. Plugs 1, 3 and 4 are wet.

Is it oil, or are you running really, really rich with fuel dumping into the engine as fast as the pump will push it? Take a look down your carbs with a flashlight while its running and see if it isn't something stuck open?

Its oil, black gold, texas tea. Have a pool of it under the car once the smoke clears out of the garage. Its also visible in the exhust pipe and is coming out where the manifold attaches to the header pipe.

The manifold bolts need to have some kind of sealant on them several go thru the oil galley and will leak under pressure. Seal theads and tighten.
