Back in the day, June 30 1971, I picked up a brand new MGB roadster. At the time I had looked as a few small open sports cars. The Fiat impressed me with its' smooth ride, modern interior and the way the top worked. A few of my friends owned the Fiat and all seemed to have mechanical trouble so I bought the MG.
Here is a newspaper story about a Fiat that most MG people will enjoy. http://autos.winnipegfreepress.com/news-article/id-4382/

She married the band geek with the Camaro. They got a minivan. Now divorced from her doctor husband she's a cougar with a Cadillac CTS.

I could see that. Anybody remember the total recall of early 70s Fiat 128 sedans in the mid-70s? Fiat bought them all back as the front struts had a habit of going through the engine hood when they let go from the rusted out inner fenders with rather disastrous effects on the steering. Our local Fiat dealer had rows of them out behind his shop. These were 3 year old cars.

The only thing that rusted worse than a Fiat when exposed to Canadian winter weather and road salt were the 1st and 2nd generation Honda Civics, and arguably most Fords built between about 70 and 73 with bad steel.

The new 1971 Fiat had more power than the MGB but did not feel very solid or well put together. The car shifted well enough but the box did not feel very solid.

Hey Simon are you still on the YCD to YVR run? I can generally hear the 0600 flight do his run up every morning when I get out of bed. He must point his arse end towards the highway. We are close enough to smell the exhaust when there is a cross wind to the west.

Very well written!

Jim, funny you should mention that flight. I left Nanaimo this morning at 0605. Departed runway 34 with the right turn to YVR. Bit misty at the airport this AM.

I'm not sure who you're hearing doing run-ups as we don't. Unless you're just hearing 2 Pratt & Whitney turbines firing up. :)

Could be the Piper Navajos warming up.

loved the article! too funny. i owned a '79 fiat spider - mint condition - until the oil pump went out on me and i had no way of getting it fixed. so, i sold it to my mechanic. i just remember my parents always telling me fiat stood for "fix it again tony"...i loved that car
