Seems I forgot to take a picture of my heater valve BEFORE removing it! I had planned to recondition it, but the set screw was giving me fits so I just removed it. Now, I probably won't need to worry about this until next spring, but thought I'd get a head start on it! The car had a ZS carb with water choke, but now has a Weber with manual choke (in case that make a difference). Currently water pipes/hoses are:
from water pump to top opening of heater core -- I've plugged off the smaller water-way that runs 90 degrees on this pipe. (see picture below)
and
from thermostat housing through intake manifold to bottom opening of heater core
Here's a pic of my heater valve with hoses still attached but after I removed it from the car:

Can anybody help "remind" me what goes where and anyone with a ZS with water choke post pics of their heater valve connected?
Here's my guess:
Referring to my pic of the heater valve (lower photo of the two above)
I think the hose on the left would have come from the thermostat housing via the intake manifold (???)
the J-shaped hose in the middle go to the lower port of the heater core (???)
the hose on the right go to the pipe that I plugged in the upper photo (???)

Hope this helps--pictures of my "old" carb and engine bay.
VERY HELPFUL! Thanks for posting 2 pics!
Looks like my guessing was correct and since I no longer have the water-choked ZS, I'll just run that hose direct to the pipe.
Thanks a whole lot, Jon. I really appreciate it.
Also if that water shut off leaks. Dismantle it. There is a o-ring in it. Just replace and is solved. Maurice
I made the same mistake as Brian and can't seem to remember how the heater hose was supposed to be routed. I recently purhased a Weber DGEV with electric choke. The carb I am replacing had a manual choke and did not have a valve to close off the heater core in warmer months.
Would a simple "T" valve work to close off water to the heater core in the absence of a water choke? If so, what would the routing look like. If anyone has a setup like this a picture would be worth a thousand words.
Yes, but you run the risk of having poor running characteristics since the reason to run water through the manifold is to ensure the fuel vapor does not drop out of suspension and pool in the plenum. Biggest "fault" with Weber retrofits.
Getting a two-way valve would work best.
