Has anyone tried to set the heater control cable from in the foot well? From the look of the picture the flap position can be set correctly from here.

Sometimes the cable is set wrong and as a result the demisters do not get the airflow as they should!

All I need to do is shrink my 230 pound 6' 2" frame down to a very skinny midget with long fingers and the job will be easy. A safety man may be in order because I do not want to spend a week stuck on the left foot well.

I gave up on that one months ago, but may try again over the winter. :-)

Yes - it is quite possible (and not that difficult) to adjust the cable through the footwell. In fact, I recommend installing the cable via the footwell - it is (IMHO) less likely to kink or bend the cable than preinstalling it with the heater box. The access panel in the footwell is clearly designed for this purpose. Hard to say how the factory did it.

Terry are you a real small guy? How about stopping by next time you are in the area.

Any suggestions from your experience for me before I start on my quest to have those demisters actually demist!

B..seein ya

I've removed mine from the footwell but was never able to feed the cable back thru to put in, so always pre mounted and installed.

When I put mine back in I attached it first and yes I kinked the first cable pretty bad. When I do the one in the yellow B I'm going to hook it up and adjust as you are going to do it Jim.

Make sure your getting a long with your wife in case you do get stuck, she may just leave you there for a while!

We were joking around with friends last night about ending up in a Jail in Mexico, m y wife said she'd leave me there until it was time to go home!!

Actually - I'm 6'2" - but fairly skinny! :) If only I were going out to the Island in the near future I would happily stop by!

It has been about a year since I did this operation, so I'm going from memory. I know I had to trim the rubber seal a bit so that I had a clear view of the mechanism. I also painted a line on the side of the drilled bolt so I could tell how to align it to pass the cable through. You don't have to do this because you just need to loosen the set screw and reposition.

I did have the dash off so that made it quite a bit easier to wiggle and position the cable. I'm trying to remember though - can't you adjust it on the rotary control too? That might be simpler.

I've only attached the cable through the foot well. Did I enjoy it? No, not particularly but it had to be done. Best to remove small children and anyone with sensitive ears from the immediate area or they'll learn some new words.

Make sure you leave lots of room on the passenger side for "flayling" (sp?) of legs as you twist around. Come to think of it....I have to do the GT soon. Oh oh...

It is do-able. How do I know. Because I kinked the bloody cable pre-installing it and removing and replacing the heater box three times. Finally I did it through the footwell.

Yes, remove children and anyone you want to stay married to while doing it. Take a deep breath and consider it a puzzle challenge. Get some long hemostats to hold thing and 1/4 drives.

All done. Wasn't that hard. The flap now works as it should. Closes off the air flow to the foot well vent and directs it to the demisters. Makes a huge differance in air flow to the wind screen!
