Hi all.
Had problem w wiring when restoring interior ( Main Wiring Harnass )
Evyting OK now, electrically. I had pulled the console "arm" of the harnass back under the dash.(It went up and over that steel " bulkhead" that has that cut-out for the radio and a 1 1/2 inch hole beneath this for cables & wires. Didnt take good close-up photos, when I pulled that part of the harnass under the dash, into the passenger footwell for better access, I did drag a string thru, so I could easily re-route the wires. I did my repairs with the harnass section in the passenger footwell, and then re-wrapped the harnass ( NO, I did not use tape ! ) Then I pulled it all back over that bulkhead, into the area that will now be between the plastic console, and that steel bulkhead. Evyting seems very close together, & hard to work with. What I can not remember is where the connector for the underseat sub-harnass, and the connector for that Pektron buzzer and the buzzer itself goes !!
First, that under-seat sub-harnass connector. Where is its final location? I think it was just under the radio, Between the console controls and that steel bulkhead?? is that correct??Then the sub--harnass will snake out under the plastic console, under the carpet on the passenger side, is this correct?? It seems tight, and that connector is sitting amongst the console control wires and cables??
Now that Pektron buzzer and its connector. Where is its final resting place. I have a small nut & bolt on it, but can not remember where it got bolted to!! Does it stay forward of that bulkhead, where there is more room, or did it go back above the bulkhead, and into that space btween the front of the plastic console & the steel bulkhead ( where it is already crowded )
When I re-wrapped wires, I seem to have wrapped the 3 "arms" of the harnass together , the arm for the console controls ( # 1 ), the arm for the underseat harnass connector ( # 2 ), and the arm for the Pektron buzzer ( # 3 ). Perhaps I should have re-wrapped the 3 arms seperately.
I can fit everything and get it all connected, but I would like to have it the way it was originally.
It seems that if I wrap the arms seperately, and keep the underseat harnass connector and the pektron buzzer forward of the bulkhead ( like between that steel bulkhead and the firewall, I have a lot more room, but i dont remember those connectors being there ( I just dont remember if I snaked them back above the bulkhead or not, when I moved hanass section into the footwell, maybe I only had to snake the console controll wires up above the bulkhead. cant remember.
The pics that I do have, seem to indicate that everything ( all 3 arms ) are in the area between the console and the bulkhead.
Any help, explanations, suggestions, pics will be appreciated.
Sorry my post is so confusing, I am trying to be as exact as possible.
Regards, Ed

Ed -
First - it would be helpful to add some info on your car to your profile to make it easier to answer. From hints within your question, I'm guessing that you have a later rubber-bumper car...

Re: 'under seat' harness - if I remember correctly, this includes the seat belt system and (I think!) the parking brake wiring circuits. The connector should reside in the area around the radio, as you mention. I would just leave it where it fits best - it's kinda tight on my '77 as well (though I'm leaving most of it disconnected).

Re: I believe the buzzer / seat belt system controller mounts just above the radio on the steel "bulkhead". I think most folks just remove this, unless you really like being nagged (and these usually have long since died anyway...)

Re: "3 arms of the harness" - not quite sure what you mean, but all those pieces lead to the radio/console area. Like I said, aside from the parking brake indication (which itself is dubious), the buzzer and seat belt circuits are removed (i.e. left unconnected) by most folks.

Good luck
Bob

I should have taken better pictures, maybe these are too close-up.Here's one of the Pektron installed.

And the console wires...

Here's a picture where you can see the two mounting holes for the "Magic Box", and just below them, the one hole for the buzzer. These are on my '74 GT, which may or may not be correct!

And here's a close up showing the seat belt wiring coming out of the harness, which continues down to the console switches, lights, and cigar lighter.

Thank you so much all of you. I am restoring the interior of 1980 MGB USA, GVVDJ2AG509439. Thanks to pics & advice. I have it routed correctly, all fits fine now. Had to do a little unwrapping & re-wrapping, but very little work for a better fit.

Also, regarding that annoying Pektron buzzer, I was looking thru posts for a better idea, and I came upon this post

http://www.mgexperience.net/phorum/read.php?1,1276393,1276393#msg-1276393

( key/parking/headlamp warning buzzer )

Its about creating new circuits with a Radio Shack Chime. All part numbers are in post if u wanna buy the chime. Anyway, I didnt want to do too much, plus I wnted to keep it as orig as possible. I open up the damn Pektron, and checked the internal buzzer, it was running on 12 volts when it buzzed. So, I snipped the wires to the buzzer & took it off the printed circuit board, then I soldered on the new chime from radio Shack. The seatbelt , key in ignition / door open system works all the same as original, but instead of the annoying buzzing sound, I get a pleasant chime sound !! I like my idea. I will post pics later wen I get out to garage later 2day.

Thanks, and regards,
Ed
