Can someone explain why there are 1 inch holes in my new British Motor Heritage floor pans - at all 4 corners? no, these are not the drains - I have those as well.

Plastic plugs fill these.

I would assume you also have the drains with the debris shields on the bottom side.

AFAIK they are also drain holes especially if you need to remove copious amounts of moisture. Plastic plugs or rubber grommets you choose. My o/e floors have those 4 x 1" plus the shielded ones. Compare your request with one a couple of weeks ago where the MGEster had none.

Came up recently and no real answer. I am not sure that the factory had them.

Yeah, they're in the originals, too. They're closed off with plastic (or is it rubber) plugs and well covered by the original sealant applied to the floors at the factory. Unless you dig them out, you'd probably never be aware of their presence.

Yep - That's correct. They are normally 'plugged' with clear plastic 'bungs' - usually of the same size that you'll find in your door panels.. You should be able to source them from Moss.
They are not normally visible due to the fact that they are often covered by the bitument sound matting..

Thanks for all the answers guys - the originals had one at the very back corner filled with the plastic plug, but not one in each corner like the replacements.

A little off the subject of the holes; what is the metal thickness of the new floor pans. I'm curious if it is 18 or 20 gage.

Jim:

Closer to 18 awg.

Did a bit of searching, and there seems to be some kind of nut/bolt arrangelnet in those holes.

From what I have read in books such as "The Illustrated History" and "Complete MGB" which detail the build process of the body shells by Pressed Steel, the body shells were initially primed by immersion tanking after production. Firstly the shell went into a acid etch/phosporic bath, and then the primer bath. This is the yellowish coating you can find in the wheel wells etc adhered directly to the metal when you sand down through original paint as I have done with Rosey. The 4 holes in the floor pans were to allow the shell to drain of excess primer. I am sure Lloyd will know if this information is correct.
