As the prop rod on our 69 MGB is broken, I've been using a long 1 X 1 to hold it open. Any suggestions on replacement units? I'm thinking either the locking, slide type or the hydraulic ones. I'd like to mount one on each side of the hood.
Thanks,
Bill

Get in touch with Rick Ingram for some of the gas struts if you have a steel bonnet.

William, I've seen them on Al. bonnets, you just have to be careful and don't let anyone else close it.
Chris
Ditto on that one. Steel hood only though! I bought pairs for both my trunk and my hood from Rick and never regretted it.
They come with instructions but if you want the down home measurements as to where to put the fender connections PM me and I will measure mine.

Bill,
I have the gas struts on on '66 with an AL bonnet. The key is to GENTLY close the bonnet by pulling on both sides close to where the struts mount to the bonnet. If you just grab the front and pull down you can exert too much leverage on the bonnet and spring it. It really is a great addition, you just have to be gentle.

Just don't tell Rick. :D
Rick's struts:

I have Rick's struts back and front, my bonnet is steel but if you treat an aluminium one gently everything should be fine, I have found that with the boot struts if you try closing it too fast it can distort, I'm sure the aluminium bonnet would be the same. Like everybody says, don't tell Rick and go ahead and fit them .:)
One more thing. With the struts fitted do not open the bonnet with the wipers lifted - it scratches the paint!
Paul,
You might want to consider running the highlighted bolts the other direction so the excess in trapped under the inner fender lip. Jus an idea, but something is sure to snag on those exposed threads.
Steve
I will gladly accomodate those of you with aluminium bonnets....please do no tell me that you have an aluminium bonnet!

Acutally, Paul has installed those mounting screws on the fenders upside down...the heads should be topside...but then...he IS Canadian!
;)
BTW......here's picture of Paul receiving his bootlid struts....out of the boot of my 1969 MGC in Grand Rapids a couple of months ago....
BTW...Here's a picture of Paul accepting delivery of his bootlid struts up i Michigan a couple of months ago...

Rick's instructions should be updated by now, I mentioned to him that the supplied instructions were innacurate and sent him precise measurements and photographs. :)

Hmmm... Yup. I must have had a reason to put them like that, just don't know what it is. Must look.
Thanks.

Sorry, I didn't pick up the book, "Strut install for Dummies."

And Rick is saying to himself, "This guy's an idiot Canadian... He will screw them up!" :)
Just funnin' with you, Paul!
;)
Take a look at the position of your fuse block...perhaps you oriented the screws upwards rather than reposition the fuse block down (not necessary in all applications).
I did move the fusebox. May have just had a brain fart, who knows. Anyway... heading out to look at an Austin. :D
