Be Coming

So, like, just wonderin' if anyone was going to point this out to Moss??

Which is probably why the catalog hasn't been fixed.

The late MGB factory parts book states "As Required".

The change point was 1968 when the wrap around rear seal was installed. With that, there was no need to have the rear buffers.

I'll get the catalog chap to fix the mistake.

Kelvin.

Lloyd - which rubber seal? I've got 4 buffers plus a seal that sits in the radiator diaphragm. I also fitted a thin seal that runs across the rear of the bonnet (about 1/4" thick and 1/2" wide) but I put that on after looking at the seal options - I thought my original must have come off over the years. #36 looks to be a thicker seal that would sit in the scuttle lip ahead of #37 - the on-line diagrams are not great in this regard - is this the one you're referring to (rather than 4 buffers)?

As an aside by afixing those rubber buffers you should have your wings (fender) in the correct place as the small holes locate them better than the slightly adjustable 8 main fastners which you then insert. Of course if you've replaced your wing you don't get this luxury.

#36 and 37 where affixed to my car. I took #36 off as being redundant, and a great place for rust to start.

yup all late cars had 36 and 37 (plus the front buffers) Early cars had 4 buffers and 36.

EDIT: If you compare the hood opening edge on the early cars with the edge on the later cars.....there is a sharp corner at the fender/cowl join. On the cars with that push on seal (same as trunk seal) the corner is rounded to make installing the seal easy.

Yeah... The catalog sucked me in. I placed my rubber bits order for the MGB Wire Wheel Conversion that Turned into a Restoration and ponyed up for four of them. Now I have to start another restoration to use them. I also accidently picked up Vent Wing pads for both the GT and the Tourer.

Someone... take away my Moss Catalog...

Mmm must be another vagary for ckd cars - not only did I get 4 buffers but also a wraparound seal - just got a new one as the old was looking a bit worse for wear. I did notice the old was moulded as essentially a square (with the side missing opposite to the lip accross the car) but the new one was just a long strip to fit - that might take acount of Lloyd's assertion that the later cars had rounded corners. FWIW.

PS and would explain why the new one was a PITA trying to 'mould' it around a right angle.

That's how I wound up with 4? I was wondering about that, I must've been told to order them.

Send me a note and I'll send you my extra 2.
