I'm in the last stages of getting my B smog inspection ready and I've run into a problem. There are a few hoses that seem to be on back order from Moss.

The two hoses need to be of different diameter at each end. For example the heater pipe is 1/2" but the heater core is something smaller. The other hose runs from the tappet cover to the carburetor. The tappet cover pipe diameter is larger than the carburetor take off.

Any suggestions on how to fabricate something? Is it possible to lube heck out one end to make it stretch over the larger diameter pipe? Can I slip one size hose into the end of another and seal them together somehow?

Thanks!

go to any auto parts store and get the proper hose reduction adapter. I do this when I am converting a late water choke B to the Weber or SU convertion ,as I use the early heater pipe that goes over the valve cover.

Yep. I've even done that making some steering rack bushings for a Z28 I did years ago. There's a product made that acts as a lubricant and then a sealant to bond the two... but old timer's strikes and I can't remember what it's called. Anybody????

on my 79' just jammed the heater hose on, i hacked it though , no longer does it go under the carb nxt to the exaust now on top next to the intake, the irn pipe that went under got choped and now is a riser from the radiator return hose..

the one goes from the forward cover to vent the case i jambed on the gulp valve adaptor that adaptor was good since it had a 90 degree that made the fit up easier, [ item 63 below, where that adaptor went i hammered in a 45 CAL brass, that looks spiffy since it is WWII vintage brass] ,and fit a smaller hose , that hose still was not small enough to fit good on my HIF44 sos i wrapped some elec, tape, gunked RTV and really cranked down on a hose clamp, seals good now,
some time during running there would be pressures develope, such that the hose would blow off the carb, and the oil cap would blow off, thing is running pretty good now , i noticed the hose from the forward cover to the carb was from factory and had a big hole rotted, that will effect ones tune.. heh..

so my recomendation is that you get a hose that fits the cover, and one that fits the carb , then with a short chunk of each crawl around in the junk room looking for something looks like an adaptor,

if you can find a sequence of hoses that will fit one in another like a chinese puzzle , try it as a temporary measure, liberal application of good fuel proof RTV , a copper pipe inserted down the middle of the join and hose clamps might figure in a fit up ..

needless to say i do not have to pass the sniffer station here.

I don't know about the late cars, but on earlier cars I dispensed with the tube from the front of the engine (spliced into the bottom hose) and simply ran a piece of hose. the tube was all corroded inside and the hose looked fine.

Thanks for the tips guys....

The heater tube is in good shape and I'm worried about passing the visual inspection so I'm going to keep it in the mix.

To close out, I found a hose adaptor in the "Help!" section of my local auto place that I could make up the heater hose with.

The breather hose I made by epoxying a 1/2" hose and 5/16" hose together with some 5 min epoxy. Seems to work well!
