....and considering the size of my gut it wouldn't be a pretty picture !

I have lusted after one of these since I saw my first one when some travelers came though the dealership in the late sixties. REALLY neat cars!

The price is right but the distance is great and besides I have other obligations to deal with before buying another car.

Try this one on eBay.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=007&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=170105894388&rd=1,1

He's selling a car and has zero feedback. Be wary.

There is a car sitting in a junk lot near me that looks a lot like that one, If anyone is interested I will have a look. Lemeknow...

The Austin 1800 Land-Crab had to be the most un-sexy rally car ever!
Apparently they were as tough as a land-crab though!

You guys ART KILLING ME ! Just about any other time I would have you look at the thing and if it was right I would get on a plane, but it is not to be at this moment. Sigh! Sigh! Sigh!

The only thing that I can hope for is if someone comes in and makes some sort of huge bid that goes beyond reason.....Then I might feel a little better about the situation.

Can you imagine what it would be like with one of those Moss superchargers hangin' off that B motor? :-)

Jon, go on and beat me with a stick. Run down there and tell me that it is indeed spotless and has no rust. I think that I'll retire to the men's room and eat a bar of soap. Yuck!

The total "unsexiness" of the think is what I like about it. Terrific ride, great handling and a reasonably high level of tweak potential, all in a completely innocuous box.

BTW: If you think that an Austin America or even a mini with hydroelastic suspension rides good, ya oughta take a trip in one of these! I'd even love it with it's automatic transmission.

It would be the only one in NC, Jack...maybe in the whole South! And so attractive!

What you waitin' for???

I kinda like it. Too bad it's a slushbox though. Be easy to remedy I suppose.

Worth? I couldn't put an exact price on it because I would have to steal it to afford it. I wouldn't be surprised though if someone doesn't slip in at the end and get it for 6 or 7 thou. I couldn't pay that but it wouldn't surprise me.

Anyway, if I pushed the button I would have to rush over to the bank and get on bended knee for a thirty day note so I could pay my obligations, buy a plane ticket, drive the beast back and... sigh...sell the red roadster.

Chris, the bank pres, would probably laugh his butt off and turn me down and then I would really be in a pickle. If only this was happening about sixty days from now!!!

Then I wouldn't be visiting here too much. But then again I don't suppose anyone would miss my loud mouth, at least for a few weeks. LOL

Um OK I don't see the appeal, wouldn't you rather have one of the boy racer Marinas from the seventies with the stripes and rostyles with a B motor?

Jack. Here's the solution.

take a 16" adjustable wrench.

go out behind the barn where it is private. find a stump or something. whip it out and beat the stuff out if it with the wrench.

go back to the house, hurt, bleeding, and fix it. even it it takes an ER run.

realize that you have gotten off REAL LUCKY and save money to boot!

The Marina is one of the few cars that I absolutely CANNOT abide.

In servicing them when they were new I found that they were a cobbled up, poor response to a dying company's market outlook. No innovation, no improvments over their forebearers and obviously designed by a room full of bean counters. ( Sorry Marc. :-) The last time I touched one was when I test drove it after a tune and the clutch fork popped off the fulcrum point for no reason at all and I ended up doing a clutchectomy that I had to eat.

I realize that others may have had acceptable experiences with them but they wouldn't be allowed in my shop, even if one happened to still be operational.

Did I say that Marina's weren't my cup of tea? LOL

I had a boss back in the 70's who had one (Marina) as his primary transportation.....I spent way too much time giving him rides to and from work.

Jack, I believe Hagerty makes loans on classic cars. Problem is, they might not agree this is a classic car.

What if we all throw in $5 to take the edge off the pain for Jack when he buys it (or to put towards his food bill for next week).

:)

Thanks for the thought Eric, but my philosophy is that if it is meant to be it will happen no matter what. besides Kathleen thinks that these are uglier than Minis.

I guess that I'll just have to tough this one out. I sure am glad that I know what an ethnic mother is like and know what guilt and humility are all about. LOL

Besides, about the time this is going off I am supposed to be in la-la land prepping for a routine colonoscopy. Talk about getting screwed out of a neat car figuratively and literally, this is surely the way to get there. LOL
