Anyone got any ideas on where to get shims for the front wheel bearings locally? Just can't seem to bring myself to order them online and pay shipping for something so small? Any one found any locally around their area?

Duane, Gordon at the BHive in South Carolina sells a packet of shims that will fit the bill.
I can get them locally. They cost about $1.10 a piece at my mechanic, but I can easily mail them to you for a 44-cent stamp. I might even have some lying around that I could send you.
They come in four sizes .0030 (thirty thousands of an inch). .0010 (ten thou), .0005 (five thou), and .0003 (three thou).
Unless you're replacing all of them, you probably don't need any thirties.

Try a local machine shop. They will certainly have a source. I usually get them from Moss but only if I can tack them onto an existing order, since shipping would otherwise be far more than the parts.
Just so you don't get too confused:
The 4 sizes are:
.030"
.010"
.005"
.003"
Just for reference: the .030 will have some decent thickness to it, thicker than a match book cover. The .010 is a little thinner. The .005 and .003 are like tinfoil. Hopefully this will guide you if you don't have a tool to measure.
A machine shop could make these for you, but your better off finding them pre-made as the price would be cheaper.
People can chime in here, but I think you need (1) .030, (1) .010, and some combination of .005’s and .003’s to get the proper .002 end float.
I got mine from Moss, purchased along with the new wheel bearings. Steve's right - you definitely want to bundle these with another purchase.
May have been my technique or lack thereof, but be careful with the .003 shims. I had a couple shred just like tinfoil after the bearing nut was torqued. May have something to do with their placement in the stack of shims.
Shouldn't make any difference where they are placed. Usually the cause of shims being damaged is that they catch on the lip where the threads end, and spindle starts, as you install the bearing assembly. I always install the shims first, then the bearing, just to be safe.
