New project. 51 TD. Awaking exercises.
I haven't exactly bought it yet. Deal was if I can get it running, hot, check the txmen and clutch and compression then it is a deal. New fuel pump.
It started as soon as I fixed a sticking float and tighten the fuel lines. Ran for up to a minuet but now for only a few seconds. Choke is frozen solid. Not the cable. When I add gas with the accelerator it chokes out. Too cold. Too Rich?????
Removed air filter and used some quick start fluid.
Choke doesn[t move at all, how much should move? 1/2 inch? 1/4 inch. Micro inch????
I haven't made love to an SU carb in over 50 years so I'm a bit rusty.
Any work arounds??
Incidently, it sounds great. No huffing, puffing, missing backfiring.
Thanks, John
Almost sure I am going to pull the trigger. Heard enough to know it will run. I am not able anymore to pull engines and rebuild them, anything else is ok, even the no good master cylinder.
It RUNS but

Jets are probably stuck in the carburetor. Disconnecting the choke linkage and twisting them a bit should loosen them up, but will probably introduce a fuel leak from around the seals - carburetors undoubtedly need to be rebuilt.
Cheers,
