I recently received my old distributor, a 24D4, from Jeff Schlemmer's Advanced Distributors and I am mightily impressed with the results of his handiwork!!! As I had mentioned when I first received it that it showed excellent workmanship and materials choices. I had an opportunity this afternoon to install it and try it out. All I can say is, WOW!! What difference it has made in the performance of my GT!

Not only does the engine have more power than before, but it comes on smoothly, pulls strongly up the rpm range, and a bonus, it idles the smoothest that this engine ever has!

This last point is probably due to two things. 1) there is virtually NO slop or play in the driveshaft for the dizzy, and yet it turns freely and smoothly. And, 2) the brand of points he has used are probably the nicest and most solidly built I have ever seen for an MGB. These two things lead to a much greater stability for the cam and minimize points bounce and keeps the contacts more accurately doing their thing. In addition, the replacement breaker plate is much more substantial than any Lucas OE/replacement assembly that I have ever encountered. These things work together to make the spark timing much more accurate in my opinion.

Jeff's choice of centrifugal advance curve seems spot on for this engine (18GF, stock cam, stock valve gear) as was his choice of vacuum advance (ported).

To say that I am very pleased simply echoes all the previous accolades given his work by those who have preceded my experience. This is a better dizzy rebuilt, than the brand new 45D4 "Euro-spec" dizzy I put on my car some years ago.

I offer up my shameless plug for his work and what he offers us all in the way of exceptional rebuild quality and the ability to match our distributors to the rest of the engine we have. I will have a link to his website soon on my own, and I encourage anyone looking for a quality distributor or rebuild to visit his site or write him an email. I think you will be very pleased and amazed with the result.

I second your sentiments, but would like to add the fact that Jeff worked with me (as a raw rookie) on weekends and several emails to get me up and running. A terrific resource for all on this board!

Damn. You guys are making me blush again!

All I can say is that I have a lot of fun building these things. My goal is to make as many British cars run as well as possible - or at least try to do my little part.

Bob, the breaker plate I installed in your distributor is simply a heavily zinc plated stock unit, adjusted to operate tightly and smoothly. Its a nice upgrade for those running points, as it doesn't allow the dwell to vary near as much as with an older worn plate. It also allows a great ground, since there's very little chance of rust forming on it in the next several years. Its become a standard thing I do whenever needed. The points you got were an upgrade - they're the Blue Streak LU1617XP heavy duty points. I think most Napa stores carry them?

Based on the recommendations of the people posting here, I just sent off my distributor for Jeff to rebuild.

Should also mention that I sent my SU carbs to Jimmy Hilton, based on people's recommendation.

My 25D had been Schlemmerized and it has been great. Best and most satisfied improvement on my car! For some of you out there, you may not realize how much better until AFTER you have it done! My car was running okay and I would never have thought to send it to Jeff if the ground wire in the dizzy did not burn up so I say send it anyway even if you are not having a particular problem right now!

As my local LBC guy pointed out the other day, we spent lots of time and money messing with valve adjustment, timing, plugs, wires, points and all the other stuff but we rarely consider how many much wear (and slop) is in the distributor which will cancel out a lot of the previous work.

Cheap power and reliablity.

What a coincidence - I just had some great emails from Jeff today and I was thinking about uprading my dizzy and getting one from him and then this post. Well it must be a sign! I guess I need to get on with the upgrade!

I plan on having Jeff redo mine in the off season. I'm glad to see people take pride in what they do.
