I found this pump on eBay this morning and was curious if anyone has had any experience with this model.

I put a little Facet pump in series with the SU as a back-up. I have a two-way toggle switch behind the passenger seat to switch between the two pumps. No complaints.

Well, yes. SU pumps are standard equipment in MGBs. You can't get any better. David Dubois here rebuilds pumps, I sell new. Either way, they are long living pumps. The Facets are noisy and prone to failure.

The pump listed is not an SU, but will bolt in just the same. I was curious about the quality of this particular pump. It's listed as a replacement for an SU.

Jim got it right, the pump is a SU knock off. I have seen one of them some years ago, but I don't remember where it was made. Purchasing this pump would be like the old saying of buying a pig in a poke - It might be good, bad or somewhere in between - you pays your money and takes your chances.

It sure does look like an SU pump, but beyond that I know nothing about it. If I were you, I would bite the bullet and purchase a new electronic SU pump. It's not that much more money. I've had one on my supercharged '67, for several years now, with no complaints. RAY

Jim, why are you considering buying this pump? If you're old one is playing up why not have a go at repairing it yourself, the most common cause is the set of points and if you replace thse and fit the shunt transistor (this reduces the current through the points so that they last longer) you will end up with a very reliable petrol pump. I purchased a brand new SU standard pump and was only able to get about 6 hours out of it! If you look up fuel pump articles on this site you will find there is an enormous amount of information. Good luck, Mike

It looks to me like they stuck the innards of a Facet in an SU case. If it were me, I would either buy a regular Facet (much cheaper) or, if you are paying that much money, get the genuine article.

I have a little cube thing I put on there a decade ago. Never had a problem with it.

In the 60s I had nothing but problems with SU pumps on my Morris Minors and later on my Bs. The B then got a big old Stewart Warner yellow and green job, I mounted it on the bulkhead in the trunk. I could certainly hear when it cycled<G>

does anybody know what is the model number for the SU dual solid state fuel pump to fit a 74 mgb
or will any 1400 series work

Chris - The SU pump for the MGB is a AZX 1307. The 1400 series is a double ended pump and more than double the price.

Thanks Dave
I thought the dual portion as insurance offset the price to some degree
It was my understanding if one side failed then the others would still work .
I guess the question would be if one side was down how would you know?
Regards
Chris

Chris - It is true that if one end of a double ended pump fails, the other end should continue to pump, but the change would be transparent - you would never know when one end failed. You could install a switch to select which end is working and if it failed you could switch to the other end. In order to have any guarantee that the unused end would work when you needed, you would have to get an all electronic double ended pump. Considering that an all electronic, double ended pump will cost you $449.95 from Moss - quite a premium to pay, when you could use a standard AZX 1307 points style pump and a $50 Facet as a permanently installed backup pump, controlled by a switch. Even purchasing a AZX 1307 ($158.00) that is half of the price of a double ended, all electronic double ended pump. If you are serious about a backup pump, see the article, Backup Fuel Pump in the SU Fuel Pump Articles section of my web site at the link in my signature block.
Cheers,
