MA/RI Coastal Wineries MG Tour - May 5, 2012

Just recently posted a poll and some pics on the MGB & GT forum page about our upcoming MA/RI Coastal Wineries Tour on Saturday, May 5, 2012. Please visit and give your thoughts on our question of the week!

POLL - MA/RI Spring Coastal MG Tour - May 5, 2012

Final details are yet to be worked out, but the planned start and finish are just off RT I-195 in Darmouth, MA. It should be a great drive of about 90 miles with fairly evenly spaced rest stops at 3 of our areas award winning wineries, Westport Rivers Vineyard and Winery, Sakonnet Vineyards, and Running Brook Vineyard and Winery. Please, no taste testing by drivers! But even if you don't partake, they provide great photo ops (and clean restrooms). Plus we've also included the required stop at Gray's Ice Cream at Tiverton Four Corners!

Cheers,

Rick

We basically have about a 95 mile route completed.(tu) Starting and finishing just off I-195 in Dartmouth, MA at exit 12, Faunce Corner Road.

Right there at the start are gas stations (Mobil and Hess), and a McDonalds. Fairly close by are also Dunkin' Donuts, IHOP, Panera Bread, Taco Bell, Tropical Smoothie Cafe, Five Guys Burgers & Fries, and many others.

There's a former Saturn dealership there (soon to be a Kia dealer) with a large vacant parking lot.

Then after returning from our run to Sakonnet Point and the 3 local vineyards, there is a Ninety-Nine Restaurant where we can possibly have a meal and share some stories.

We're scheduled for Saturday, May 5, 2012, if the forecast is for rain, but Sunday looks nicer, then we'll postpone it 'til then. (If the whole weekend's a washout, we'll try again later in the season.) We'd make any decission on Friday and then post it here on the Member Meetup Forum, and send out an email/pm to anyone on our contact list.

If case you missed it, I put a poll about using a rain date on the MGB & GT Forum:

Early numbers are coming in and, so far, we have over a dozen cars planning to attend, with some of those possibly bringing groups with them.(tu) Another bunch of drivers "hope to be ready" in time, and yet more fall into the "maybe" catagory!

So remember to save the date!

A little less than two weeks to go until the MA / RI Coastal Tour and, so far, we have 18+ cars planning to attend, with some of those said to be bringing groups with them! In addition, another group of more than a dozen "hope to be ready" in time, and yet more fall into the "maybe" category!

On Saturday, May 5, 2012, we will meet up right off I-195 (Exit 12 or 12A, Faunce Corner Road) at Faunce Corner Crossing on Comfort Lane in Dartmouth, MA. There's a nice parking lot right behind the Mobil station and the McDonalds Restaurant on Faunce Corner Road where the Saturn dealership was located. Let's try to meet around 10:30 am, say "hello", maybe have a bite at McDonalds, then a laid-back driver/navigator meeting and leave around 12:00 pm. The route we'll follow is a little less that 100 miles, with stops at Gray's Ice Cream, Sakonnet Vineyards, Sakonnet Point, Westport Point, the Horseneck Beach dunes, Westport Rivers Vineyard, Padanaram Harbor, Running Brook Vineyards and then returning to our starting location. Depending on the stops, I would guess we'll be back between 3:30 and 4:00 pm. Perhaps we can then have a meal and share tales at the 99 Restaurant.

There is NO CHARGE to join us on the MG coastal drive. After all, we're not a "club" per se, nor is this get together sanctioned by any organization. We're just a group of friends out for a drive. (By joining with us, you assume responsibility for your own actions.)

You may want to bring a clipboard and pencil as you'll receive a set of directions outlining the route we will be following. You'll have the option of traveling with the group or independently if you wish. If you do want to run solo, a navigator will be necessary to follow the route directions as well as to participate in a special contest we'll be running during the drive. Some MG owners whose cars are not yet quite ready for the run may volunteer to be available to be navigators. We will all reconnect at the locations mentioned above. You may also want to bring your cell phone and, although not necessary, a GPS along.

Should the forecast call for inclement weather on Saturday, the rain date will be the following day, Sunday, May 6, 2012. If the whole weekend is a wash out, we'll try again later in the season. I'll send out emails/PMs to those on my list and you can check www.MGExperience.com for updates.

Cheers,

Rick

Right now, Thursday afternoon at 3:05pm, the updated Saturday forecast is:

60°F
High
AM Clouds / PM Sun

Cloudy skies early, followed by partial clearing. High near 60F. Winds NE at 10 to 15 mph.

Of course, this is New England, so it'll probably change a few more times before Saturday! Anyway, since they're NOT saying rain. . .

WE'RE STILL ON FOR SATURDAY, MAY 5, 2012!

We have 20+ MG's who said they'll be participating! Can't wait to see everyone there!

Cheers,

Rick

Great Run! I posted pics of the 17 MG's that ran to Sakonnet Point (braving an overcast sky) on the May 5 MA / RI Coastal Tour post on the MGB & GT forum page.

Thanks again to everyone who attended!

Cheers,

Rick
