Any ideas as to a replacement jack for the original MGB jack??
I would like to find a scissors jack that would fit in the rim of
my inverted spare tire in the trunk. Trying to clean up the clutter,
I inverted the spare and now carry oil, brake fluid, spare parts, etc in it.
I cut a piece of 1/8" plywood to fit in the rim, and covered with a cover.
I have been searching the internet for a small size one ton scissors jack,
can not locate one at a reasonable price (+ S/H). Was considering scouring
the local junk yard for an import car jack as a replacement, any one ever do this??

I found a small floor jack in the case at a swap met for about $15 that fit nice in the boot with some room to spare. I've even has the chance to use it and although I had to move to a low spot on the parking lot it was low enough to get under the car to change the flat.
I have a jack that I got from my own junked Mazda. I would not fit in the rim I don't think. It fits beneath the back floor in my GT though. I use it a lot for various things and I am concerned about it wearing out. I have had a hard time finding jacks at some u-pull junk yards because the proprietors don't want people jacking cars up and having them fall. You should be able to ask at the counter and they will give you one.
Hope this helps.
Another cool place to store stuff is the extra battery box if you switch to a 12 volt battery. I have one of those plastic liners and it’s a good place to store oils and fluids, spare parts etc. Keeps them out of the boot.
I have several jacks from the wrecking yards. Usually $5 each. Most have never been used before I bought them.
the only jack I've had which works with a flat tire is the stock one. Can't even imagine where to put a bottle jack in such a case.
I got one from a Cavaleer (however it's spelled) at the U pull it. Haven't had a chance to try it, but it looks like it should work.I had one in a66 mustang that would be great, but I guess they became collectable along with the cars.

Check Northern Tools they have all sorts of jacks. Make sure it has enough lift distance.
The best test of whether or not a jack is suitable is to use the jack to jack the car up.
Then remove a front wheel and a back wheel and lower the car till the brake drum or rotor is 3 inches from the ground.
If the jack will not let the car go that low it will not be suitable once you need it for a flat.
I stopped carrying a spare and a jack a while ago. My flat tire plan is a 2004 one.
All the tires have radial tubes in them. In the boot there is a 12 volt tire pump and a container of that tire leak sealant that is for tubes. The new MINI uses this method.
Hey Don, I got a new AC Delco scissors jack at Murrays auto parts $20. Flat nuff to fit well under the spare.
I use a scissor jack from a chevy I owned. It has a nice cushioned U-shaped receiver so I don't scratch the paint and it lifts the car high enough to do the job. You can probably find one at a yard for $5 to $10.
I'd go the $5 or $10 salvage yard route... late model Mustangs have a nice, compact scissors jack.
Make sure you also get the handle... the wrecnch may not fit your logs, but jack handles are NOT universal.
