i have recently bought an MGB GT 1974 for restoration, the original colour is Mirage Grey. i have been doing some research on the internet and haven't found many mg's in this colour.

can anyone tell me anything about the 'mirage' MG, how many was made that colour etc.

Nathan,
I believe Mirage was only available on 1974 cars (and perhaps on the "74.5" cars that came to North America). My 1974.5 MGBGT wasn't originally Mirage, but a previous owner repainted it in a shade very close to, but not exactly matching, Mirage. I like it, and have yet to see another one in this color, other than in photos.

i spoke to someone at the mg owners club uk and he said that he had only ever seen 4 in his time there

I've only seen one car in Mirage, a '74 tourer.

I also have only seen one, before Hurricane Hugo took it away in 89.

I have a mirage 74 which is now aqua and have a friend who purchased one new in 74. Like many of the early 70s MG colours some were more popular than others. Mirage was not a best seller as it looked a little too much like gray primer.
