Some guy who doesn't seem to know much of anything about it, is trying to sell a gearbox here in NZ. He originally said it is an o/d MGC 'box. I put him straight on the o/d part ( it isn't ), but I also think it's an MGB 'box. I looked at a bare casing I've got lying in the garage, and the part number 22H 1055 AB2 which you can see on his photos on the front bearing / retaining plate is the same number I have on my casing. So does anyone know if an MGC casing is the same as an MGB casing, just with different gears inside? If it turns out it is an MGC 'box and someone wants it I can get it no problem and send it up to you. $100 NZD = $76 USD today.

Different casting. The bellhousing is larger to house a larger diameter flywheel. Non-od MGC boxes have the same gear ratios as B boxes.

Can't see the image (I' 'working') so can't comment intelligently on it (some would say that's been a lifelong condition)

Mr Spanner

That is pure MGB - the MGC bellhousing is MUCH larger and has square mountings with 4 holes each on either side of the bellhousing.

Just to confirm Chris' post. It IS a non-OD B unit.

The other test is that you can pick up a B transmission with your hands and you usually can't without help on a C transmission. LOL

????

The only difference between the boxes is the bellhousing area of the gearcase casting is larger in diameter- I'd guess just a couple pounds more, if that much

Come on Greg, you give great advice! If it were not for your advice, I would have the whole rear end out of my B, and swapping it with one from a local GT! Thanks!

Don't worry Kyle- I have absolutely no self image problems. I'm comfortable enough in my own skin to mock myself, my family heritage assures me of that
