For those of you with a still operational and intact air pump on your MGC, I've finally found a spare out in the barn that I've had for quite some time. (Sorry).

The replacement filter is an AC Delco originally designed for Cadillac/Olds/Buick.

Part: 1 #A224C
0002K5 1 # 6422750

I purchased these filters from the parts desk at a Cadillac dealer about 1998.

Note...they do NOT look like the filter used in an MGB air pump housing (and incorrectly pictured in the Vicky Brit catalog). They are about 4" square and about an inch thick, and fit upright in the housing between the air intake port of the housing and the exit port.

HTH...

A little of this threads subject but I was just reading on the B board about K&N filter set-ups. I was planning on keeping the stock carbs on the C and using the stock air cleaner system (covers) with K&N filters. Was wondering if now I should consider dumping the stock covers and just hanging the K&N with the little chrome top and base plates. What do you think performance wise would make any difference? I actually like the looks of the stock air cleaner cover.

Swamper,
I would think open air K&N filters would draw in a lot of air heated by the exhaust manifold. The stock air filter housing at least makes an attempt to draw in air from the front of the engine compartment, were the air should be cooler. I made some rough measurements once and I think the air cleaner housing opening cross section is about twice as big as the cross section of the carburettor openings, so it shouldn't create a restriction. This is all untested theory but it makes sense to me. Keep the housing, IMO.

Additionally, I ***think*** that you would need to richen the a/f mixture with the use of K&Ns...and/or possibly change out the metering needles as the K&Ns allow for better air flow into the carbs in most applications.

Those with K&Ns on an MG would be able to give you the skinny here.

It is known that K&Ns breath better than nearly any other filter (and are better than no filter at all at speed) so one may very well have to change needles. I would have to check with some of my MGB friends to find out their experience, but I think you may just be able to adjust the original needles.
Unfortunately the original filter was 2 3/8" thick and K&N doesn't make one that thick. I can give you a couple of K&N part numbers that will fit otherwise, but are 2 1/4" thick. They can be used if you glue in a 1/8" thick spacer into the housing to get the K&N to seal at both ends.
Moss has been listing a filter for the TR6 as a K&N for the MGC, but it is only 2 1/8" thick and is too large in diameter to work.

Does ITG make a usable setup?

Taylor, I have to assume that Mark is speaking of filters that fit within the original can assembly. There are a number of K&N setups that should fit in a freestanding way.

BTW, I am anxious to see your new car, and progress!! If you decide to bail, keep me in mind.
