In the midst of doing my second A restoration. This car has some very nasty rot on the frame by the foot wells. I also have a roadster that I got hit in and was totalled, back of the frame is bent, rest in decent shape. Has anyone ever cut a car in half and welded it back together again. I'm just talking about the frames, I very serious about doing this and looking for input. Thanks Bill

Done all the time- You'll want to stagger the joints. In other words, don't just cut it in half with one vertical sawzal cut. Inboard sections (halves, these frames are two pieces welded together from factory) cut shorter on the donor section, longer on the original frame. Outboard sections cut longer on the donor section, shorter on the original frame. Lots of measuring and test fitting needed to do it right. Without seeing the rust that you're describing, it's impossible to say if this is necessary or not. But don't let anyone scare you or say this shouldn't ever be done or you'll have the blood of your innocent family on your hands throughout eternity...these cars cut themselves in half over time by rusting where they do anyway. A sentient human can do a better job of that task than random oxidation any day of the week.
