Hi,

I saw a picture (and can't find it again), where someone showed their interior and there was no radio. Instead a nifty plastic cover where the radio would be. Does anyone know where I can purchase one of these covers that would fit a 72 B?

thanks...

Be Coming

Dave.

No one that I know of is making the later model plastic version of the radio blanking plate.

The earlier version fits in the same location and looks cooler. It's steel with a chrome surround and a nice MG logo.

It is available from all of the regular full line suppliers.

Kelvin.

A radio blanking plate is what you are describing. Moss, for one has them. See
item 7 in this plate.

I got the parts for the radio blanking plate today.

There were no instructions but I found the following on the internet...

I like to put it all together outside of the car. Then rotate the two clips horizontal and place the plate over the hole. While holding it in place with one hand, pretend you're a professional contortionist and reach up behind the dash with the other hand to rotate the clips into place. You may have to pry the tips of the clips up over the lip of the dash, which only take a couple more finders than you have.

So this is what I did but clips are too strong to bend. I tried it outside the car and inside. I have strong hands so I don't think that is the problem.

Any suggestions?

Dave, What I have done on three different cars is use a die, I forgot the size, and put threads on the studs, then I used popsicle stick to span the hole with a nut on that. Haven't had one ever come loose or fall off Terry

Thanks for you response Terry. I'm not sure I understand what you did. I'm not the most mechanically experienced guy around.

If I understand you, a die is used to put threads on the studs. Then 2 popsicle sticks are used each with a hole cut to fit on the studs. The sticks go vertically inside the dashboard to hold the plate unit in place and then the bolts snug the popsicle sticks tight.

Is this correct?

You understood perfectly Dave Good luck

Thanks Terry,

I bought a tap and die set and used a size 10 24 size thread. I bought a popsicle at the corner store, ate it, drilled holes through the two sticks and it works fine.

Are there a lot of popsicle sticks on your car or is this it?

thanks again,
Dave

I managed to get my clips on okay (eventually). My advice is to try and stay relaxed and not get shitty, lol!
