How is this melted bridge going to affect the NAMGBR gathering in Rohnert Park? Also, we were planning on going into SF to visit family, etc. Is that now not possible? Or, will the ferries be able to get us there?
TIA

Chris,
Just head over the Golden Gate and into SF from Rohnert Park.
Straight shot, better drive.
I'd just expect more traffic than normal on all the other bridges into SF. Not that I've ever been there!
My relatives are all down San Carlos, Hillsborough way so I'll use San Mateo or Dumbarton. Hopefully traffic there won't be too much worse. Are your relatives North or South, Chris?
Everyone,
Here's the scoop. From Rohnert Park, San Fransisco is a straight shot south on 101 across the Golden Gate Bridge. To go see relatives in San Carlos/Hillsborough, you'd still take the Golden Gate Bridge and as soon as you get off the bridge, take 19th Avenue South about 6 miles to 280 south. The only routes affected are those leaving San Francisco heading for Walnut Creek/Concord and those headed South on 80 trying to get to the Oakland Airport. The evening commute out of SF is going to be brutal for those folks trying to get to the East Bay. If you need to do that from Rohnert park, drive south on 101 to 37 or to the Richmond Bridge then take 80 south to the Richmond BART station and hop the train. Parking at the BART stations is going to be difficult so if you can get someone to drop you off, you'll be better off. Best of luck. Basil
PS- I live about 6 miles from Rohnert Park and have a 3000 square foot shop at my home. If any of you break down while there, call me.
Shouldn't affect the gathering at all. It is normally a congested area anyways. The detours already are in place. The MacArthur Maze is located an hour if not more south of Rohnert Park in the East Bay. http://cbs5.com/local/local_story_119163155.html lists the detours.
Chris, just take 101 south from Rohnert Park, cross the Golden Gate Bridge and you will be in San Francisco. If you are a AAA member, stop by your local office before you leave Pendleton for any updated maps of the area.
Rex,
Just take 101 South from Rohnert park to get to San Carlos, no reason for you to go out of your way. Essentially one onramp and one offramp to the Bay Bridge is affected. If you need to use the Bay Bridge to go from Rohnert Park to San Carlos, you will not be affected. Traffic heading into Oakland and going east is what's affected. If you are a AAA member, stop by your local office and get a map. Here's a link to the detours http://cbs5.com/local/local_story_119163155.html
about the same way that a Russian ship taking out the footings of the Astoria bridge would affect a meeting in Longview.
no effect at all. Miles and miles away.
Thanks all. Rex, I'm not sure where they are now; Jane's Dad was in Palo Alto, but has moved to some other surrounding town.
Anywhere near Palo Alto, San Carlos, Hillsborough... won't be affected. 101 South to 19th Avenue in SF. 19th Avenue to 280 south. 280 South to city of your choice. The only bad part is thzt 101 does not run through SF - You'll have to take surface streets. 101 south of SF is always brutal so 280 is a much quicker route. Best of luck. Basil

Thank you. I'm sorry but I should have said this, we're staying in Napa & I'm just going to use the 880. That's usually the way I go as I most of the time I'm usually coming from Reno (more family) & use that way, too. Unless I'm going to Sausalito, I don't get up (GG) that way much. Thanks, again! :-)

Hey, that's 'in-the-hood' of my gang, Chris. If you're not in a rush, (& enjoy unparalleled views) there's always 1!

DO NOT GO NEAR THE RICHMOND BART STATION. The Richmond BART station is located in one of the most dangerous areas per capita in the country. Federal employees are routinely mugged in that area. Six cars have been stolen from federal employees this month alone two blocks from the station. Employees from Kaiser hospital and the Social Security Administration have been attacked by armed gangs and have had their wallets, money, clothing stolen. Several have had to go to the hospital. Even the trees aren't safe from being tagged. I know some employees that will take cabs to the BART station in El Cerrito because the Richmond Station and the surrounding area is too dangerous. Cars are routinely broken into at the Richmond BART station parking lot.
The El Cerrito Del Norte BART station is located closer to I80, but parking is difficult there. Also it can be faster to drive from the East Bay to the pennisula. Check with the Bay Area Rapid Transit's website to see a schedule.
Okay, the Richmond Bart station is out. In 22 years of living in and near SF, I've ridden BART twice - from the City to an A's playoff game and back.
However, if you're staying in Napa, stay away from 880. The transition from 80 West to 880 South is closed. From Napa, take 80 south to the Richmond/San Rafael bridge and come across to 101 or take 121 to 37 to 101 south. Either way, use the Golden Gate Bridge to 19th avenue to 280 to get to the peninsula. Don't go near 880. Best of luck. Basil

I have some guys @ Castro who want my opinion on a couple of K boats so that won't work. I try not to drive El Camino, anyway. Guess I'll hit 780/680. So they're finally fixing the rollercoaster (80/880) road, huh?
If they're in Castro Valley, Take 580 to 980 to 880 to get tho the San Mateo bridge to get to the peninsula. That route is open. If they're in the Castro District of SF, come in on 101 :)

Sorry, CV. Don't know the area that well but, I've gone to San Ramon & cut over on Crow(?) road, before. Plans may change, depending on where I'll test/tune these boats for set up. Thanks for the help!

Crow Canyon Road, most likely. Talk about a blast from the past. Back in the day, that was way out in the country. About the only thing out there was a huge park where the gang from the OC Division on the USS Enterprise (bird farm, not starship) could go and par-tay.
R.
Sunnyvale is where Jane's Dad moved to, next to her brother.
My grandpa moved to California during WWII and was offered land in Crow Canyon for some ridiculous price like $10 per acre. Couldn't afford it. I too remember when Crow Canyon was way out in the country.
Thread hijacked.

My folks lived in San Jose in the 30's-40's & then pop got a telegram from the Navy on Dec. 9, 1941 that said report to Mare Island & he was on a ship headed to Pearl a few days later. After WWII, he worked in the shipyard for a few years before moving to OR. He collected quite a few souvenirs.....
