How long are those Moss rack seals PN 263-385 lasting? I put a new set on and after 2 years (12,000 miles) one of them has broken and let all the oil out.

I sort of remember something about others talking about this, some time ago.
Is this a common issue?

I fitted a set three years ago, they're still fine.

I'll get poo poo'd about this but I've had a few sets turn to goo when I used 90 wt gear oil as some recommend. Never had a problem using engine oil.

I've noticed 2 different qualities in the boots.
Some were noted as OEM and others from ???
I bought both sets about 3 years ago. The OEM were a dull rubber. The others were very shiny and felt almost plastic like. Additionally, the OEM were a little longer than the others. Then I read either here or on another site that the aftermarket boots broke down very quickly and tore very easily

The Moss boots look and appear to be of decent quality, but the pair I installed 18 months ago lasted about 6 months. The replacements are now a year old a going strong.....woo hoo!

One thing I did differently the second time around was to clamp the boots in tighter than they are supposed to be in the tie-rod so that they don't experience as much stretch when the steering is at full lock. My first set split cleanly right at an edge as if it were due to an over-stress mechansim (can you tell I write failure reports for a living?).

Having said that, it is pretty silly to have rubber components exposed directly to oil, and I thin kit's about time one of these "great" suppliers of ours comes out with a set of neoprene boots. I read somewhere that a later model Mustang boot goes right on a B, and are made of neoprene, or some other oil-resistant material.
