I finally got my 1800 5main back from the machine shop. A couple of notes, first they went through 5 heads, 3 cranks and 2 blocks before we were done. Some expense was required to have all the stuff vatted and checked for cracks etc. Cost $155.00. Money down the tubes but I had no choice.
Some expenses as follows:
Head
Valve job, exh seats installed, guides installed, milled head and basic porting IAW Burgess book. New parts were springs, all guides, all valves, exh seats. Ready to paint and install. Total for head work including parts was $575.00
Block
Bored 30 over, new cam earings, freeze plugs, oil gallery plugs removed, surfaced and lightened flywheel, vatted block, crank, and oil pan, resized rods. Turned crank 10/10, balanced complete assembly, etc. $725.00
Parts
New everything except pistons which are 30 over and in good shape. Every other moving or rotating part is new. Including a cam for the Moss supercharger. Cost $625.00
For $1925 plus a few small items to buy so lets say $2000.00 I think is a good price to have an engine ready to rebuild with all new stuff. When I add the supercharger I will still be into this engine for what I consider a modest figure.
Just thought you guys might be interested what costs were incurred on the engine rebuild. Puting it together is all labor, so costs will not change (I hope).

Not bad for what could be considered partial custom work. Did that include the cost of the extra heads, cranks and blocks that you needed to get a good set?

Are you going to have that bad boy ready for the fall show?
For that kind of work and attention, that's a neat price for sure. Gonna be a sweet engine when you finish it up ! ! !
John
I either had those parts or they were given to me so no cost there. The heads will go in the scrap pile since they had multiple cracks each and not cost effective to repair. I still have a few heads left and probably should have all of them checked to see what is really good.

Not this year, maybe next. You need to see my recent acquisition. A 74 MGBGT which is a very nice driver.

Looks like I am back to plan A which is to put this engine in my MK2 restoration project. I will try to limit any unnecessary mods and keep all the hardware that comes off so I can go back to original one day should I desire to.
