Was perusing Anders Clausager's "Original MGB" book today, and on page 119 there is a schedule of car numbers for roadsters and GTs. Mine's a 1967 GT, and the vin is 101918. So help me please.... According to Anders, the vin nos for that time frame show the first GTs built in 1966 started with 77774. Then the first GTs built in 1967 started with 113658. So, unless I'm confused, as I read this my car was built sometime in late 1966. But then again, that kind of makes sense because auto manufacturers typically (well, in the old days) began production of the next year's model late in the prior year - correct? So it's quite possible that my vin 101918 was built in, oh say, October or November of 1966, but was identified and sold as a 1967 model - correct? Does that sound right? Thanks in advance.

It's very possible. My '67 Tourer was one of the last 3 synchro transmission cars built with a VIN of GHN3U 136021G. The engine number is 18GBUH 86130. I have the original owners manual and warranty plate. RAY

I'd say you are correct.

My '67 has a VIN of 99677, so it too, was built in Sep/Oct '66 as a '67 model.

Ross,
You are bang on. It was quite common for vehicles made later in the year to be sold as the next year's model. Especially once you take into consideration the time they sat at the docks on both coasts to clear customs, etc., and the time to get to a dealer's lot before folks purchased them. It was a different time for the auto industry. Much less restrictive regulation for better or worse.

My '67 GT is VIN 90757 and was probably built around SEPT '66.
I am ordering a Heritage Certificate. For a couple bucks it gives you all the info you want to pay for, from basic to extensive.

p.s. Ross, if you want to, add me on your buddy list as I too am just starting to sort out my "67 GT.
