I purchased and installed the Moss Tourist Trophy exhaust late last year. It's a beautiful system, but alas, is way too loud for me, I don't enjoy it at all.

I know it's way too late to return it, but was thinking of getting the regular steel exhaust from Moss.

I wonder if anyone would be interested in the TT system, should I post it on the trader if I do go ahead and get the regular stock system? It's in great shape, just not to my taste.

Of course Scotty post it in the trader section before Derek throws a fit LOL.

Well, I haven't decided yet, just wondering. Also I just posted another topic that has immediately taken precedence (transmission probs)

I suspect you would be better off having a custom one-muffler exhaust made.

the "stock" moss system is a mess, pr was several years ago. the center piece is upside down and backwards, but you wouldn't know it until you'd tried to fit the final (heaviest) piece. (answer, flip the SOB upside down and cut off the mounting tabs).

I later had the first muffler/resonator removed and replaced with straight pipe which improved clearance AND sound. I suspect it would be cheaper to start from scratch...with a good down-pipe. And I think you are better off with a 1-3/4" system rather than 2" in order to maintain velocity.

I got an awesome custom exhaust system from Payless Muffler for $105 after taxes. It's great! Sounds good and not too loud.

You might consider the Falcon stainless (not the big-bore). The big-bore is somewhat louder than the regular Falcon.

Scotty, I have a Falcon SS stock system on the 67B. It fit well and sounds quiet to me. The 71B has system without the center resonator and the muffler must be burned out sounding as loud as a straight pipe Harley. My best advice is to try to hear some of the other systems before making your choice.

I have a tractor muffler that is useless once the engine gets above 3k, but I am also 18 so I LOVE IT! lol. The car has a really unique sound for a 4 banger that I have yet to find in anything else, gas, diesel, big block, small block, etc. What is it that is bothering? Is it just overall too loud or are you getting some drone in the cabin while driving? I am guessing it is just too loud overall by the way you described it, but if it is a drone, it may just mean the muffler isn't coming past the muffler enough.

If you want quiet, don't go with the Pacesetter exhaust--it sounds like I remember the cars at Sebring sounding like. I like the sound, but it is loud.

I've got a Peco is a bit loud as well (though I like it). Granted, it's probably pretty worn out, given that it is about 10 years old.

i put the regular size falcon system on my '77 this past weekend. sounds good. sounds pretty stock. looks real purty. see?

(Edit: this car is a rolling resto, so, yes, i see the other issues in the pic...but there are fewer other issues than there used to be...)

I have a moss big bore on my 75 and its down right quiet compared to my peco on the 73. Instead of scraping the whole exhaust it may be easier to head down to your local muffler shop and see what they have to say and I'm pretty sure they can get a polished stainless muffler that will work best for you.

You can purchase a different muffler and install it, or get yourself a PECO, I love the sound of the PECO EXHAUST SYSTEM!

Good Luck,

My PECO has a good low tone at idle that is not too loud, and you can have a regular normal conversation at cruising speed. I like it a lot.

ansa or abarth does a good job......good burble on down gearing

I guess I want stock sound. 'Sport' is too much for me. I already did the loud-ass exhaust with the Interceptor. To me, it just sounds silly on a 2 liter 4-banger.

Are either of these still available? I haven't noticed a 'B Abarth system advertised for years (decades?). And I know a few years back that the Ansa systems were getting hard to find.

A stock system without the center muffler is what I have and I think it sounds better than it did with the center muffler. I had the exhaust shop remove the center muffler and make me a center pipe. Now I have more ground clearence and it sounds right.

OH OH,

I bought the same tourist trophy for my mgb but haven't installed it yet.

Is it really that loud? I feel my car is a little to quiet but I don't want crazy loud.

Is it any louder than some of the other "performance" setups?

I crammed a bunch of stainless steel wool into it and am going to find and install a front muffler for it.

It all comes down to personal taste. The muffler on the TT system isn't really a muffler per se, it's a straight through with holes, like a big glasspack.

Scotty, I run Bell stainless on some of my upper end cars. Its not very loud but gives a great note. If you are heading to the Charlotte area let me know and we'll try to get together so you can hear one in action! Bob

I hope to be there this summer in June, up at the lake.

Scott, Wonder if the front muffler from the Falcon system is available as a separate item?

I don't know... I was planning on taking the intermediate pipe off and going to a local parts store to peruse their mufflers.

Scotty, If you do go look at front mufflers, give a look at some of the compact turbo mufflers or Flowmaster (if they have that size inlet/outlet). I have a system which is 2" pipe from the collector back, with a smaller turbo muffler up front under the driver, and essentially a glass pak right ahead of the tip. It makes good noises, but I can still hear conversation and the radio when bombing down the road at highway speed. A Turbo muffler or Flowmaster will be less restrictive than a conventional muffler, but capable of doing a decent job of toning things down so your car doesn't sound like a tractor.
