Just going through the images on my HD and found the scans I made of pictures of my old GT. Found myself wondering if it might still be out there someplace. CA blue plate "857 PCD". Don't have the VIN.
I had it in SoCal during the early 1980's and sold it to the kid who delivered our morning newspaper when I got a job that pretty much meant I needed a car with a/c.
It had a custom interior with red vinyl door panels with black piping and red carpets. Was still positive earth, as I recall, and had a chrome Motorola radio from a Jag 3.4 hooked up through a Radio Shack voltage inverter.

you could probably trace it if you could find the VIN. I looked for the 1970 MACH1 I had as a kid growing up. Found the window sticker in my dad's papers when we moved him, the corner with the VIN was torn. Contacted the dealer we bought it from and their records were destroyed in a fire in the 80's. Even spoke with the salesman who was a friend of my dad's. He kept notebooks of every car he ever sold. He found his notebook which listed my dad, the car the selling price but no VIN :( Contacted NJ motor vehicles and they could only trace by the VIN so I finally gave up. :( :(
Almost looks like my old '70 Toyota Corona in the background.

Interesting timing on this thread.... I was going through some old pics and found a couple of fun shots of my first B, the '71. That one, alas, went to the wrecking yard in '89. Sigh..... :(
One thing you have to remember - there are still about 25,000 total MGBs and GTs still registered in the USA (according to R.L. Polk) but there are only 1629 listed in the MGBE Registry! So, the chance of the owner of any specific MGB being a member here is pretty slim!
I don't mean to dissuade you from your search, but it often makes me laugh here when I see postings that say something like "I saw a blue roadster on Main Street last night, does anybody know the owner"!
It also brings up the inverse question - why aren't the other 23,000 plus owners members here - and could the BBS handle them?
