Two very simple questions. To start, today I took possession of a 70 Euro spec B GT and I’m not sure of a few things.
First: The glove comp. (steel dash) will only open with the key in. Is this correct or is the button stuck?
Second: The steering wheel leather is just about shot, I assume that the very nice spare wheel off my 74 spline will not fit, but can I bolt the three spokes on the 74 wheel to the hub of the 70 hub?
Thanks in advance, Larry
BTW, Horseless Carriage Transport is a first class outfit. No problem at all clean, neat professional.

I think it means steel-dash late Mk II, which was only made for the euro market, as Fed regs required the pillow dash by the Mk II?

Larry-

In my 72 (UK-spec) the glove box is opened by turning the key...I leave the key in it. I don't know about the steering wheel.

Glove box is as it should be.

Jim,
I got the car today just before dark. Looks to be better than I expected. . I suspect that this is a really nice car. Tomorrow I’ll put it on the lift and have a ‘look see’. Thanks for your help. I'll buy you a beer at 08. I’m loving life right now. Too late to talk.

Congrats Larry, I know you have been looking for a long time to find a good GT. I hope to see it at the Rocks this year

Maybe you can't tell because he hasn't posted a picture of it yet...

Once again James, you don't have to be a jerk (or is it just your nature?). I was looking at the car in his avatar assuming that's the one he's talking about. Have a nice day as*!@#e! :D

A nice leather steering wheel cover may be the answer. I see them on e-bay from time to time.

Or you could try "feeding" the leather.

Wheelskins are covers I've heard of often but never tried.

Ok, Since you asked for pics. The car was purchased in London, and modified to ship to Portugal. I'm the 5th owner. I have all the history of the past owners, copies of titles, and some original paperwork from the factory. Whatever the doc is that states the lic plate numbers is called. This is really more interesting then the car as far as car stuff goes. If I had a scan of the doc, I'd post it. I'm sure that most have never seen the factory paperwork. (this page anyway).

Nice. But you missed the picture that we all really, really want to see! The dash, man! the dash!

Euro-spec cars are always interesting to look at. That brake setup is too cool with the early style MC but with the servo. This must be the car from the TN MG club? David Kiehna has mentioned it to me a couple of times and always spoke highly of it.

Shawnie, sorry if me pointing out the obvious bothered you. Yes, I am naturally a jerk. Congratulations on finally realizing that.

Yup, Thats the car. Here;s a pic of the dash, if you open it with 'picture it' or 'paint' it enlarges real nice. Check out where the ignition switch is, on the steering collum under the dash, very strange.

Thanks for the pic, but I'm afraid a 32kb file doesn't let us zoom in too much.

Tell me about the air filters for the SU's?...those are cool! Brand, cost?

Hi Larry,

Great looking car! It looks a lot like mine and I like the fact that it has the original doorstep en bracket that covers the doorrubber.

How about the console? I thought that European 1970 cars had a console with lots of switches and a radio and airoutlets in the dash?

Stan,
It looks pretty much like yours. The only odd thing is the placement of the iqnition switch. Mine's on the steering column under the dash.

What's strange about the ignition switch being on the steering column under the dash. A bit awkward, but adds that extra bit of excitement when you get it and never find it without breaking your neck to look underneath HAHA !
